Job Overview:
The position of Adaptation Associate is crucial within the UNDP framework, focusing on climate adaptation strategies and initiatives. The individual consultant will be responsible for supporting the implementation of adaptation projects, ensuring alignment with national and international climate policies. The role requires a deep understanding of climate change impacts, adaptation measures, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community groups. The consultant will also be expected to contribute to capacity-building efforts, providing training and resources to enhance local adaptation capabilities. This position is designed for a 12-month period, during which the consultant will engage in project planning, execution, and monitoring, ensuring that all activities are conducted in accordance with UNDP standards and practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the design and implementation of climate adaptation projects, ensuring they meet the needs of local communities and align with national policies.
  • Conduct assessments of climate vulnerabilities and risks in targeted areas, providing recommendations for effective adaptation strategies.
  • Collaborate with government agencies and stakeholders to develop and implement action plans for climate resilience.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to build capacity among local stakeholders on adaptation practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate project progress, preparing reports and documentation to share findings with UNDP and other partners.
  • Engage in knowledge sharing and dissemination of best practices related to climate adaptation.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams and partners throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with UNDP procurement and operational guidelines during project implementation.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in climate change adaptation, environmental management, or related fields.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex environmental issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
  • Familiarity with UNDP policies and procedures is an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in environmental science, climate change, sustainable development, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset for the position.

Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in climate change adaptation, project management, or related areas is required. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is highly desirable, as is familiarity with UNDP's operational framework and project implementation processes.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the project areas is considered an asset and may enhance communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a full-time individual contractor role for a duration of 12 months. The consultant will be expected to work closely with UNDP staff and partners, contributing to the organization's mission of promoting sustainable development and climate resilience. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's remuneration policies. The role may involve travel to project sites as necessary.
