Job Overview: The Graphic Designer and Video Editor position at UNDP Syria is designed to support the organization's communications and partnership efforts by developing high-quality visual content that aligns with UNDP's branding and communication goals. The role requires the designer to create engaging graphics that effectively communicate complex data and ideas, thereby supporting the strategic objectives of UNDP Syria. The selected candidate will work closely with the communications team to ensure that all outputs contribute to a consistent visual identity and narrative for UNDP, reinforcing its mission and objectives while conveying intended messages to various audiences, including partners. This position is part of UNDP Syria's broader efforts to promote volunteerism and enhance the capacity to respond to technical assistance demands from its counterparts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Graphic Designer and Video Editor include creating high-quality visual content such as banners, reports, factsheets, brochures, and presentations optimized for web and mobile viewing. The designer will also create visually engaging social media content, including static posts, carousels, and short videos that align with the organization's branding and messaging. Additionally, the role involves designing and producing animated graphics and motion design elements for digital platforms to enhance visual storytelling. The designer will generate infographics and data visualizations to communicate complex information in an accessible manner, support video editing, and develop templates for recurring reports and custom infographics for flagship publications. It is essential that all designs adhere to UNDP's branding and style guidelines, are optimized for accessibility and inclusivity, and maintain consistency across all communication channels. The designer will also perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization, and facilitate knowledge building and sharing within the Country Office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong graphic design and video editing skills, with proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro). A solid understanding of visual storytelling principles and experience in creating engaging content for various platforms is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate creativity, adaptability, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to adhering to branding guidelines are also required. Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices for digital content is a plus.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, multimedia arts, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in video editing and motion graphics will be considered an advantage.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of professional experience in graphic design and video editing, preferably in a non-profit or international development context. Experience working with diverse teams and stakeholders is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the UN system and its communication strategies.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, and proficiency in English is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages will be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Damascus, Syria. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan and are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
