Job Overview:
The Consultant for Food Systems Hub Development will play a crucial role in initiating the development of the Food Systems Hub (FSH), which is envisioned as a multidisciplinary platform for policy research, evidence generation, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement focused on sustainable, equitable, and resilient food systems. The consultant will be responsible for shaping the intellectual and strategic foundation of the Hub, which aims to integrate various sectors such as agriculture, nutrition, health, environment, and livelihoods.   • The consultant will assist in preparing content for the Hub's knowledge portal, categorize policy narratives, support stakeholder mapping, analyze policy responses, and contribute to various strategic documents. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of food systems transformation and engage with a diverse set of change agents across India.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Assisting in the preparation of content for the Food Systems Hub's knowledge portal, ensuring that information is accessible and well-organized.
  • Thematically categorizing and cataloging policy narratives, media, and institutional documents relevant to the Hub's objectives.
  • Supporting the development of stakeholder mapping and engagement frameworks to facilitate collaboration and communication among various actors in the food systems landscape.
  • Analyzing national and sub-national policy responses that impact food systems, providing insights into current trends and challenges.
  • Tracking emerging global frameworks and initiatives related to food systems to ensure the Hub remains aligned with international best practices.
  • Contributing to the preparation of presentations, policy briefs, synthesis reports, and strategic roadmaps that will guide the Hub's activities.
  • Fulfilling any additional tasks assigned by the reporting officer that align with the overall objectives of the Hub.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Public Policy, Development Studies, Economics, or related disciplines that align with the tasks of the position. A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in research, consulting, or policy advisory roles is required, with a preference for candidates who have experience in food systems. Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills are essential, along with a proven ability to integrate multi-sectoral evidence. Proficiency in statistical and analytical software, as well as visualization tools, is necessary. Candidates should also have experience handling state and non-state datasets, and must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. The ability to work collaboratively with a team and engage effectively with stakeholders is crucial.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in fields such as Public Policy, Development Studies, Economics, or other related disciplines that are relevant to the tasks and responsibilities of the role. This advanced degree is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to contribute effectively to the Food Systems Hub's objectives.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience. This experience should ideally be in research, consulting, or policy advisory roles, with a strong preference for candidates who have specific experience in food systems. The consultant should demonstrate a solid understanding of the complexities involved in food systems and the ability to analyze and interpret data effectively.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they facilitate engagement with diverse stakeholders in the food systems landscape.
