Job Overview: The Intern for Adolescents and Youth will work under the direct supervision of the Regional Technical Advisor for Adolescents and Youth at the Arab States Regional Office. This role is crucial for supporting the regional team in advancing youth participation and engagement, particularly in the areas of Adolescents and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health, youth-responsive programming in humanitarian settings, and Youth, Peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (YPS) initiatives. The intern will engage in a comprehensive work plan that includes achievable milestones and learning opportunities, with regular progress meetings to enhance their skills and capacity in alignment with UNFPA’s mandate. The intern will contribute to various initiatives aimed at empowering adolescents and youth, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met in programming and policy-making processes.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an Intern with the Adolescents and Youth Team, the intern will be responsible for a wide range of tasks that contribute significantly to regional initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
Supporting the Adolescents Girls Social Practice Lab and Country Team Coordination by providing logistical support, managing Zoom links, facilitating engagement with adolescent girls, and ensuring timely completion of assignments.
Leading knowledge management and documentation efforts by reviewing and translating online content, updating the UNFPA ASRO Youth microsite, and conducting desk reviews of resources related to UNFPA's youth mandate.
Providing administrative and coordination support to the Adolescents and Youth Unit, including document consolidation, meeting participation, and tracking action points. The intern will also assist in preparing presentations, drafting concept notes, and designing communication materials for youth-related events.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, candidates must meet several educational and eligibility requirements. They should be currently enrolled in a first university degree program (such as a Bachelor’s degree) and have completed at least one full academic year, or be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program, or have recently graduated with a university degree. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in youth participation and engagement, possess written and spoken proficiency in English and Arabic, and ideally have fluency in French. The ability to adapt to new environments and maintain positive working relations with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is essential. Previous engagement with youth networks or youth-led organizations is considered a plus.
Educational Background: Candidates should have an academic background in social work, youth work, development studies, political sciences, social sciences, conflict resolution, or public health. This educational foundation will equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to UNFPA's initiatives focused on adolescents and youth.
Experience: The position requires some experience working with development agencies, which can include volunteer work. Candidates should possess strong analytical and writing skills, demonstrate initiative and sound judgment, and have the ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds. Previous experience in youth engagement or related fields will be beneficial.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, with additional fluency in French considered a strong asset. This linguistic capability is crucial for effective communication and engagement with diverse stakeholders and for the translation of key documents.
Additional Notes: The internship does not provide a salary or remuneration from UNFPA; however, interns may receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses if they are not financially supported by another institution. Interns are responsible for their living expenses, accommodation, travel, and other requirements. Medical insurance is mandatory for the entire duration of the internship, and proof of insurance will be required before starting.
