  • Its mission is to advise senior leadership on key technology trends, advocate for digital cooperation, facilitate multi-stakeholder policy dialogue, strengthen system-wide coordination on digital technologies, and support the implementation of the Global Digital Compact. UNODET operates globally, engaging with Member States, the technology industry, civil society, and other stakeholders to enhance digital cooperation and mitigate risks associated with technology. The office is led by the Under-Secretary-General and Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies, who works closely with various UN entities to implement the Secretary-General's vision for digital cooperation and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Job Overview:

Interns will have the chance to work in one of three tracks: Policy Analysis and Assessment, Analytics, or Communication and Design. Each track has specific responsibilities that contribute to the overall mission of UNODET. Interns are expected to monitor and analyze global trends, support research and policy formulation, assist in data analysis and visualization, and contribute to the design and communication of digital materials. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about technology and its impact on global cooperation and governance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be assigned to one of three tracks based on their interests and qualifications. In Track 1 (Policy Analysis and Assessment), interns will monitor global political trends, support research, and contribute to analytical reports. In Track 2 (Analytics), they will assist in preparing datasets, conducting statistical analysis, and developing data visualizations. In Track 3 (Communication and Design), interns will help design visual identity products, prepare content for briefings and presentations, and maintain websites. Interns are encouraged to indicate their preferred track in their motivation statement.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program, be in their final year of undergraduate studies, or have recently graduated. The preferred fields of study vary by track: Track 1 focuses on International Relations, Political Affairs, Law, and related fields; Track 2 emphasizes Analytics, Statistics, and Engineering; Track 3 requires coursework in Design, Marketing, and Media Studies. No prior work experience is necessary, but relevant training and skills are beneficial.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a strong academic background relevant to their chosen track. For Track 1, degrees in International Relations, Political Science, or similar fields are preferred. Track 2 candidates should have a background in Analytics or Statistics, while Track 3 candidates should have relevant coursework in Design or Marketing. Applicants must meet the educational requirements set by the United Nations Headquarters Internship Programme.

Experience:
No prior work experience is required for this internship. However, candidates should possess skills and knowledge that will contribute to the work of the United Nations during their internship. This could include academic projects, coursework, or relevant volunteer experiences that demonstrate their capabilities and commitment to the UN's mission.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French or another official UN language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the organization.
