Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should possess less than two years of relevant working experience. The programme aims to provide practical experience in the field of migration health, particularly in radiologic technology. Interns will support the IOM radiology service delivery in Yaoundé and Douala, Cameroon, specifically in the context of Migration Health Assessments (HAP) and other related programmes. The role involves assisting in various radiology tasks, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the radiology unit. Interns will also have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and gain insights into the operations of an international organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including verifying the identification of immigrants and refugees, assisting in organizing applicants at the radiology reception, and providing support during X-ray procedures. They will help in counselling applicants regarding X-ray procedures, ensuring proper consent is obtained, and providing radiation protection measures. Interns will assist in entering applicant biodata into the radiology systems, ensuring correct labelling of X-rays, and coordinating with external service providers. They will also be tasked with uploading X-ray images to the e-Medical website, preparing statistical reports, and maintaining optimal workflow within the radiology unit. Additionally, interns will contribute to radiation safety measures and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in the final academic year of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Medical (Clinical) Radiologic Technology or have graduated within the last 12 months from an accredited institution. They should possess knowledge in client reception, identification, and registration, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with clinical laboratory techniques and quality management systems is essential, along with an understanding of laboratory biosafety principles. Candidates should demonstrate good awareness of the laboratory's role in health systems and efficient service delivery.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes enrollment in or graduation from an accredited academic institution with a focus on Medical (Clinical) Radiologic Technology. Candidates should have completed relevant coursework and practical training that equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform in a radiology setting. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is the minimum requirement, with preference given to those pursuing or holding a Master’s degree in the field.
Experience: Interns should have less than two years of relevant working experience in a clinical or radiologic setting. This experience can include internships, volunteer work, or part-time positions that provide exposure to radiologic technology and health assessments. Candidates with practical experience in a laboratory or clinical environment will be favored, as this will enhance their ability to contribute effectively to the IOM's radiology services.
Languages: Fluency in both English and French is mandatory for this position, as these are the official languages of IOM. Proficiency in Spanish is considered an asset. Language skills will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates can effectively communicate in a multilingual environment.
Additional Notes: The internship is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification of medical fitness for appointment. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving financial support from their university or other sponsors will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses for interns, but they must secure their own medical insurance for non-occupational issues. The organization maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
