Job Overview:
The position involves facilitating and supporting the Secretaría de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional (SESAN) in strengthening governance in security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security and nutrition (SAN) at the municipal and community levels. The consultant will work in prioritized municipalities of Alta Verapaz, specifically in San Miguel Tucurú and Panzós. The role requires collaboration with local leaders and community organizations to promote SAN initiatives, ensuring alignment with community priorities and cultural relevance. The consultant will document processes, provide reports, and coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of SAN projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the municipal monitor of SESAN in awareness processes about SAN among municipal and community groups.
  • Accompany the SESAN monitor in COMUDE and COMUSAN sessions, providing updated information on proposals and community processes related to SAN.
  • Facilitate coordination between SESAN monitor and social promoter of SCEP to include SAN projects in the Development Council budgets.
  • Assist in formulating territorial projects to access municipal funds and integrate SAN into municipal planning instruments.
  • Document all community and municipal processes through minutes, reports, and photographs.
  • Prepare progress reports and provide inputs for monitoring actions and decision-making.
  • Coordinate closely with the interdepartmental project facilitator to ensure coherence and articulation among intervention municipalities.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences (e.g., social work, agronomy, nutrition, etc.) is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in community work, local development, SAN, or participatory planning is required.
  • Experience in facilitating training processes with participatory methodologies for local leaders and community organizations is required.
  • Knowledge and experience in the functioning of SINASAN and/or SISCODE is required.
  • Understanding of rights-based approaches, interculturality, and gender equity is desirable.
  • Ability to prepare reports and training materials is required.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of community dynamics and the principles of food security and nutrition governance.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least three years of relevant experience in community work, local development, or food security and nutrition initiatives. Experience in participatory planning and training facilitation is crucial for effectively engaging with local leaders and community organizations.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory. Knowledge of the local language is desirable to enhance communication and engagement with community members.

Additional Notes:
The position is a consultancy role with specific deliverables and timelines. The consultant will be required to submit a financial proposal detailing costs per product, including travel expenses. Payment will be made within 30 days of receiving the consultant's invoice, contingent upon the acceptance of deliverables by UNICEF. The final fee will follow the principle of achieving the desired outcome at the lowest possible cost.
