Job Overview:
The role of the consultant is to support VSO in proposing new fundable advocacy models for FLLoCA (Funding Locally Led Climate Action) work. The consultant will need to navigate the changing development funding landscape, which has seen a shift towards domestic resource mobilization and innovative financing mechanisms. The consultant will work closely with the policy and advisor" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">advocacy advisor to identify and develop strategies that can mobilize investments for advocacy work, ensuring that VSO can continue to support community actions and volunteer initiatives effectively. This role is crucial as it aims to safeguard development gains and strengthen community ownership in the face of environmental and economic challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the policy and advocacy advisor to analyze the current funding landscape for FLLoCA initiatives.
  • Propose innovative and fundable advocacy models that align with VSO’s mission and objectives.
  • Conduct research on best practices in domestic resource mobilization and public-private partnerships.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including government systems and FLLoCA partners, to gather insights and foster collaboration.
  • Develop a comprehensive report outlining the proposed advocacy models and strategies for implementation.
  • Provide recommendations on how to strengthen community ownership and resilience in advocacy efforts.
  • Participate in meetings and workshops to present findings and gather feedback from VSO and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of FLLoCA, advocacy, and partnerships. A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Project Management, or International Development is required, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or equivalent experience. The consultant should have a proven track record in developing advocacy strategies and mobilizing resources for community-led initiatives. Familiarity with Kenya’s development landscape and experience in people-led development programs are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Project Management, or International Development. A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or a related discipline is also required. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Experience:
The consultant should have significant experience in advocacy, particularly in the context of FLLoCA. Experience working with civil society organizations (CSOs) and knowledge of Kenya’s development programs are crucial. The candidate should demonstrate a history of successful project management and resource mobilization in similar roles.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within VSO and with stakeholders. Knowledge of local languages in Kenya would be advantageous but is not a requirement.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a consultant agreement with a contract length of 10 days. The role is part-time, and the salary will be discussed based on the consultant's submitted rates in accordance with the Terms of Reference.
