Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security Analyst position at WFP involves conducting food security assessments and related analyses in Syria, particularly in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The role is critical in providing high-quality and timely information to support operational decision-making and the design of better-targeted programs. The incumbent will work under the guidance of the head of the Research Assessment and Monitoring (RAM) team and will be responsible for drafting, designing, and disseminating food security and market analysis products. This includes conducting household assessments, monitoring food prices, and performing in-depth studies to understand food insecurity. The position requires a solid understanding of food security concepts and the ability to transform complex datasets into clear communication products tailored to diverse audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Contributing to the drafting, design, publication, and dissemination of food security and market analysis products, including mVAM bulletins and assessments.
  • Supporting the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team in preparing Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) reports.
  • Assisting in transforming complex datasets into user-friendly communication products.
  • Leading the dissemination of RAM products through various channels.
  • Overseeing knowledge management and archiving systems within the RAM unit.
  • Coordinating capacity strengthening initiatives for RAM staff and partners.
  • Supporting the operational management of food security assessments, including procurement and coordination with partners.
  • Collaborating with GIS Officers to produce maps and visualizations.
  • Creating dashboards and visualization products with other RAM team members. 1
  • Drafting meeting minutes and maintaining an action point tracker. 1
  • Conducting food security analyses and contributing to analytical outputs as required. 1
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a solid understanding of food security concepts and demonstrate proven ability in analytical reporting and narrative development. They should have experience in designing high-quality reports and data-driven dashboards for diverse audiences. Proficiency in developing interactive dashboards using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or R Shiny is essential. Additionally, candidates should have strong communication skills and the ability to train large groups of people effectively.

Educational Background:
The position requires completion of secondary school education, with a preference for candidates holding a university degree in Social Studies, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Economics, or related fields. A strong educational background in these areas will be beneficial for the analytical and technical aspects of the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 6 years of experience, which includes at least 4 years of relevant work experience in research, report writing, and data visualization, along with 2 years in any other field, preferably related to the position. This experience is crucial for understanding the complexities of food security and the analytical skills required for the role.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written communication in Arabic and English is mandatory for this position, with a proficiency level of C. This bilingual capability is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the diverse working environment of WFP.

The contract type for this position is Fixed Term (FT) with a duration of 12 months, based in the Damascus Country Office.
