Job Overview: The Data Officer (AI/ML) position is crucial for leveraging data science methodologies and machine learning techniques to enhance operational efficiency and optimize business processes within WFP. The role involves translating complex data into actionable insights, fostering innovation, and enabling strategic decision-making. The Data Officer will work closely with stakeholders across various departments to understand their data needs, identify opportunities for data-driven improvements, and deliver impactful AI/ML solutions. This position requires a proactive approach to data management and a commitment to ethical standards in data usage, aligning with WFP's Global AI Strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collect and clean data from primary or secondary sources to ensure the accuracy and reliability of databases and data systems in alignment with established guidelines, standards, and processes.
Provide feedback to system sponsors for continuous improvements to data quality, system performance, and adherence to standards.
Identify, analyze, and interpret data using statistical methods and basic machine learning techniques to inform reliable data-driven models.
Contribute to the development and utilization of data quality monitoring tools to improve accuracy, consistency, and adherence to best practices in data management.
Monitor and evaluate data analytics performance to assess the effectiveness of tools, models, and processes, providing recommendations for improvement to ensure high-quality results.
Develop reports, dashboards, or other data visualization tools to effectively summarize findings and convey information to inform decision-making.
Engage and collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and requirements, ensuring that data analysis outputs align with operational goals and decision-making processes.

Contribute to the design and delivery of training and capacity development initiatives to strengthen effective data management practices, using dashboards, systems, and tools. 1
Provide technical advice to managers and employees on data policies, processes, and systems to ensure they are correctly applied and optimally used across teams. 1

Implement innovative solutions in accordance with WFP's policies, ensuring compliance with guidelines and procedures for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and other innovative data solutions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced or first university degree in Computer Science, Data Management, Statistics, Information Management, or a relevant discipline. Additionally, candidates should have at least 7 years of post-graduate relevant, hands-on, and progressively more responsible experience in data science, analytics, or implementation work, with experience on 3 or more relevant projects using agile development methodologies. At least 3 years of supervisory experience leading data science, analytics, or implementation projects is also required. Proven experience as a scientist" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, or in a similar role is essential, along with a strong background in statistical analysis, data mining, and predictive modeling. Desirable qualifications include 1+ year of experience working with databases, Tableau, and Palantir Foundry, as well as knowledge of WFP business processes and experience fine-tuning AI/ML models, creating model cards, and selecting AI models and libraries.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced or first university degree in fields such as Computer Science, Data Management, Statistics, Information Management, or other relevant disciplines. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of data science and machine learning, which are integral to the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 7 years of post-graduate relevant experience in data science, analytics, or implementation work. Candidates should have progressively more responsible roles, with hands-on experience on at least 3 relevant projects that utilized agile development methodologies. Additionally, at least 3 years of supervisory experience leading data science or analytics projects is necessary, demonstrating the ability to manage teams and projects effectively. Proven experience in roles such as Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer is essential, along with a strong background in statistical analysis and predictive modeling.
Languages: Fluency (level C) in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement ensures effective communication with diverse stakeholders and enhances collaboration within the organization. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
