Job Overview:

Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should possess less than two years of relevant working experience. The programme aims to provide practical experience in areas relevant to IOM's work, allowing interns to gain insights into the organization's operations and contribute to its mission. Interns will assist in various tasks related to migration health assessments, providing support to applicants and ensuring a smooth process throughout their health assessment journey. This role is crucial in enhancing the quality of service delivery and ensuring that migrants receive the necessary support during their assessments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing information to migrants before, during, and after health assessments, ensuring accurate and timely responses to inquiries via phone, WhatsApp, email, and in person.
  • Assisting in the reception of applicants for migration health assessments, which includes taking pictures, preparing health assessment tracking sheets, and verifying the correctness of information filled in on these sheets.
  • Conducting completeness checks of supporting documents and sorting them according to relevant checklists.
  • Assisting applicants with incomplete documents and guiding them through the necessary steps to rectify any issues.
  • Booking onsite appointments for health assessments using provided software applications and issuing appointment confirmations.
  • Collecting feedback from applicants regarding their experiences during the health assessment process to evaluate service quality.
  • Supporting data management by accurately registering applicants during their health assessments on systems like Mimosa and Emedical, and assisting in the deletion of duplicate entries.
  • Providing general administrative and clerical support to the Migration Health Unit to ensure efficient operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
  • Enrollment in the final academic year of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Bilingual Studies (English and French), Linguistics, Communication Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or have graduated with a university degree within the last year in the aforementioned fields.
  • Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, knowledge of customer care, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines with minimal supervision are essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having recently graduated from a university program at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level. Relevant fields of study include Bilingual Studies (with proficiency in both English and French), Linguistics, Communication Sciences, Social Sciences, or other related disciplines. Candidates should have a strong academic foundation that supports their understanding of migration issues and the operational context of IOM.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have less than two years of relevant working experience. This can include internships, volunteer work, or part-time positions that have provided exposure to migration issues, health assessments, or administrative support roles. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the dynamic environment of IOM.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and French is mandatory for this position, as the role involves communication with a diverse group of migrants and stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader audience.
