Job Overview:
The position of National Consultant, Human Development Expert, under the UNDP/PN/11/2025 -SDG Financing project, is designed to provide expert guidance and support in the area of human development as it relates to the financing of sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Nepal. The consultant will be responsible for analyzing current human development indicators, identifying gaps, and proposing actionable strategies to enhance human development outcomes in alignment with the SDGs. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners, to ensure that the human development agenda is effectively integrated into national policies and financing mechanisms. The assignment is expected to span 45 working days from July 2025 to November 2025, during which the consultant will conduct research, facilitate workshops, and prepare reports that will inform decision-making processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the current state of human development in Nepal, including key indicators and trends.
  • Identify barriers to achieving human development goals and propose evidence-based recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with government officials and stakeholders to integrate human development considerations into national financing strategies for SDGs.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to build capacity among stakeholders on human development issues.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations for various audiences, including policymakers and development partners.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of proposed strategies and provide ongoing support to ensure effective execution.
  • Engage with local communities to gather insights and feedback on human development initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in human development, sustainable development goals, and financing mechanisms.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement and facilitation.
  • Familiarity with the socio-economic context of Nepal and the challenges related to human development.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively within tight deadlines.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences, or a related field is required. A PhD or equivalent advanced degree is preferred and will be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in human development, policy analysis, or related fields is required. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is highly desirable. Proven track record of successful project management and implementation is also essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Nepali or other local languages is considered an asset and will be advantageous for community engagement.

Additional Notes:
This position is a consultancy role with a contract duration of 45 working days. The consultant is expected to work on a part-time basis, with flexibility in scheduling to accommodate stakeholder meetings and workshops. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP standards. The consultant may be required to travel within Nepal as part of the assignment.
