Job Overview: The position of National Consultant to Prepare Detailed Costing for UNESCO Biosphere Reserves involves a consultancy assignment aimed at preparing detailed costing and prioritization of action and conservation plans specifically for the Addu Atoll Biosphere Reserve and Fuvahmulah Biosphere Reserve. The consultant will be responsible for analyzing the existing conservation plans, identifying necessary actions, and estimating the costs associated with these actions. This role requires a deep understanding of biosphere reserves, conservation strategies, and financial planning. The consultant will work closely with local stakeholders, including government agencies and community organizations, to ensure that the plans are practical, sustainable, and aligned with local needs and priorities. The assignment is expected to take place from July to November 2025, and proposals must be submitted through the designated UNDP procurement portal.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the National Consultant include:
Conducting a comprehensive review of the existing action and conservation plans for the Addu Atoll and Fuvahmulah Biosphere Reserves.
Engaging with local stakeholders to gather input and insights on conservation needs and priorities.
Developing a detailed costing framework that outlines the financial requirements for implementing the conservation actions.
Prioritizing actions based on urgency, impact, and feasibility, and providing recommendations for implementation.
Preparing a final report that summarizes the findings, costing details, and prioritization of actions, ensuring clarity and accessibility for stakeholders.
Presenting the findings to UNDP and relevant stakeholders, incorporating feedback and making necessary adjustments to the final deliverables.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include:
Proven experience in environmental consultancy, particularly in the context of biosphere reserves or similar conservation projects.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and interpret complex data related to conservation and financial planning.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with stakeholders and present findings.
Familiarity with UNDP procurement processes and systems is an advantage.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess at least a Master's degree in environmental science, conservation biology, natural resource management, or a related field. A PhD in a relevant discipline would be an asset, demonstrating advanced knowledge and expertise in conservation strategies and financial planning.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in environmental consultancy, with a focus on conservation planning and costing. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP or similar agencies, is highly desirable. Familiarity with biosphere reserves and their management will be considered a significant advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the Maldives would be beneficial but is not a requirement.
