Job Overview:
The Security Guard position is a temporary role within the OSCE Security Management Unit, primarily responsible for performing protective and physical security duties at the OSCE premises in Vienna. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Security Associate and will be expected to carry out day-to-day operational security tasks, ensuring the safety and security of the premises and its occupants. This role requires a proactive approach to security, including access control, emergency response, and regular patrols to prevent unauthorized activities and safety hazards. The Security Guard will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of security-related events and ensuring compliance with OSCE policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Security Guard will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
  • Conducting access control at entry points of OSCE premises, verifying identification and authorizations of staff, delegates, visitors, and contractors.
  • Performing regular patrols of the premises and surrounding areas to detect and prevent unauthorized activities, safety hazards, and security breaches.
  • Acting as a first responder to emergencies, including fire, medical emergencies, and security incidents.
  • Completing Duty Log entries and OSCE Incident Reports, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of security-related events.
  • Providing physical security at the Security Front Desk during assigned shifts.
  • Adhering to OSCE policies regarding weapons handling, including the issuance, carriage, and secure storage of duty weapons.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Security Associate.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess completed secondary education, supplemented by specialized training in security, military, or police services. A minimum of three years of relevant working experience in security, law enforcement, or military is required. A university degree in a relevant field may substitute for up to two years of working experience. Knowledge of physical security procedures, emergency response, and surveillance systems is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft applications, and have practical knowledge of X/Ray machines and surveillance equipment operations. Knowledge of fire safety and first aid procedures is necessary, along with physical fitness and readiness to perform security tasks. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory, while working knowledge of German is desirable. Candidates should also exhibit gender awareness and sensitivity, and the ability to work as part of a diverse team.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). Candidates with additional specialized training in security, military, or police services will be preferred. A university degree in a relevant field may be considered as a substitute for some work experience, enhancing eligibility for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of working experience in security, law enforcement, or military. Candidates with a university degree in a relevant field may substitute up to two years of this experience for eligibility purposes. Experience in physical security procedures, emergency response, and surveillance systems is crucial for success in this role.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory for this position. A working knowledge of the German language is desirable, as it may facilitate better interaction with local authorities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a temporary position for a duration of 5 months and 29 days, with the possibility of extension based on funding availability. The role is full-time, and the monthly remuneration is approximately EUR 3,400, subject to social security deductions. OSCE salaries are exempt from taxation in Austria, and social benefits include the possibility of participation in the Cigna medical insurance scheme. Candidates should be aware that OSCE does not reimburse expenses related to interviews, tests, visas, or relocation. Appointments are subject to medical clearance, and the OSCE does not request payment at any stage of the application process.
