The External Relations, Communication, and Youth Engagement Section is responsible for ensuring the visibility of UNICEF's actions in Benin, producing quality internal and external content across various channels (traditional media, digital, etc.) to raise public awareness of its actions and mobilize partners and resources to achieve expected results for children.
Job Overview: The VNU Chargé(e) Multimédia will work within the External Relations, Communication, and Youth Engagement Unit at UNICEF's office in Cotonou, Benin. The role involves supporting the communication efforts of UNICEF by producing strategic multimedia content that enhances visibility and advocacy for children's rights. The position is crucial for documenting and making visible the impact of UNICEF's interventions, ensuring accountability, and mobilizing resources from financial partners. The volunteer will assist in creating a monthly editorial calendar for content creation, coordinating with various sections within UNICEF Benin and regional/global communication teams to conceptualize and define the content to be produced. The role also includes developing scripts for video production, creating graphic visuals for social media, and ensuring ethical principles are respected during content creation. The volunteer will also organize training sessions for UNICEF staff on photo/video capture and visual production.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the creation of strategic communication content: Prepare a monthly editorial calendar for content creation; coordinate with different sections within UNICEF Benin and regional/global communication teams to conceptualize and define content; develop scripts for video production; create graphic visuals for social media; prepare and conduct field missions for video and photo capture; ensure ethical principles are respected during content creation; organize short training sessions for UNICEF staff on photo/video capture and visual production.
Support the management of multimedia products: Manage the image and video bank of UNICEF Benin to facilitate the search and use of internally produced content; select and organize the best products in corresponding folders; manage the page and content available on UNICEF Benin's 'weshare' page; ensure key information for each batch of photos and videos is collected in the field; prepare caption files for each batch of photos with essential information.
Support the publication of strategic communication content: Ensure the best products (photos and videos) are uploaded and published on UNICEF's weshare platform; prepare and implement a monthly publication calendar for content on UNICEF Benin's platforms; propose and share relevant content based on the needs of sections for donor reporting; contribute to writing 'visibility' sections in donor reports. Additionally, UN Volunteers are expected to enhance their understanding of the concept of volunteering, participate in VNU activities, and contribute to the writing of articles about field experiences for publication.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), excellent command of video/photo capture tools (cameras, microphones, drones), and mastery of video and photo editing software (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Canva). Familiarity with graphic design software for visual creation is an asset. The candidate should demonstrate fundamental values such as attention, respect, integrity, trust, and responsibility, and possess core competencies including self-awareness, ethical consciousness, collaboration, partnership building, innovation, strategic thinking, results orientation, and the ability to manage ambiguity and complexity.
Educational Background: A degree in communications, multimedia production, graphic design, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in video production, photography, or graphic design will be considered an advantage.
Experience: Candidates should have prior experience in multimedia production, communications, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs, particularly in a development context, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNICEF's mission and values will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Benin. Proficiency in English is a plus and will enhance the candidate's ability to engage with international teams and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The assignment duration is twelve (12) months, based in Cotonou, Benin. A monthly volunteer living allowance (VLA) of 533,667 FCFA will be provided to cover housing, basic needs, and utility costs. The position includes travel to the duty station, installation allowance (if applicable), medical insurance (covering up to three dependents), disability insurance, and life insurance. A return travel to the recruitment location (if applicable) and a reinstallation allowance (RSA) after satisfactory service will also be provided. The VNU program will send a copy of the service conditions, including the code of conduct, to the selected candidate for further information.
