Job Overview:
The Food Security Data Analyst Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and the Vulnerability, Analysis and Mapping (VAM)/Nutrition Officer. This position is integral to the establishment of the National Food Security and Nutrition Information System (SNISAN) in Mozambique. The consultant will be responsible for developing analytical content for descriptive and analytical models related to food security, as well as designing the layout and producing the first SNISAN bulletin. This role requires a strong analytical mindset and the ability to interpret and visualize complex data related to food security and nutrition, contributing to informed decision-making and policy development in Mozambique.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will focus on several key tasks, including refining the descriptive model for analyzing food insecurity in Mozambique, taking into account both chronic and acute food insecurity. They will conduct data analysis on specific indicators and develop content to visualize the status and evolution of food security in Mozambique. Additionally, the consultant will prepare the first bulletin on food security and nutrition, defining its layout and automating information and visual analysis for future bulletins. They will also propose and contribute to the development of other information management products, such as maps, dashboards, and infographics, to enhance the analysis of the food security situation. Furthermore, the consultant will contribute to the design and revision of the remaining analytical and descriptive models of SNISAN, ensuring that the data collected is effectively utilized and communicated.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in various statistical tools and methods for food security analysis. Practical experience in food security analysis and mapping is essential, ideally gained through participation in multiple assessments in Mozambique, including design, data collection, and analysis. A strong technical knowledge of food security vulnerability mapping systems and the Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) for analyzing acute and chronic food insecurity is also required. The ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders is crucial for success in this role.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in Economics, Food Security, Statistics, Data Science, Public Health/Nutrition, Geography, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training may be considered. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of food security and nutrition data analysis.

Experience:
At least one year of postgraduate professional experience in food security and nutrition assessment and analysis is required. This experience should include hands-on involvement in data collection, analysis, and the application of statistical methods in real-world scenarios, particularly in the context of Mozambique's food security landscape.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese (Level C) is mandatory, as this is the primary language of communication in Mozambique. Additionally, an intermediate level of proficiency in English (Level B) is required to facilitate communication with international stakeholders and to access relevant literature and resources.
