Job Overview: This internship is designed to provide practical experience in the field of information and communications technology within the United Nations framework. Interns will work full-time, five days a week, under the supervision of a staff member in the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT). The internship is unpaid and has a minimum duration of two months, extendable up to six months. Interns will engage in various tasks that align with their educational background and the needs of the office, contributing to the overall mission of ESCAP by assisting in media production, event organization, and information management.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will have a diverse set of responsibilities that may include: assisting in the creation and editing of videos; supporting graphic design efforts, photography, and photo editing; researching, compiling, drafting, and editing basic information for media materials; preparing background documents, reports, talking points, articles, and presentations; organizing events and managing websites; maintaining databases; and performing other duties as necessary to support the office's objectives. The specific duties will depend on the intern's background and the duration of the internship.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). No prior work experience is required, but candidates should possess skills or training that would benefit the United Nations during their internship.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a strong educational background, either in a graduate program or in the final year of an undergraduate program. The focus of their studies should ideally relate to the fields of communications, media, information technology, or other relevant areas that would contribute to the work of the Office of Information and Communications Technology.
Experience: While no specific work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant skills or coursework that would be beneficial to the United Nations. This could include experience in media production, graphic design, research, or any other area that aligns with the duties of the internship.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
