Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer for the Gender Justice Research Project will engage in a comprehensive analysis of gender-related issues in Papua New Guinea (PNG). This role involves conducting literature reviews and synthesizing information on various aspects of gender justice, including international legal frameworks, domestic challenges, and national policy initiatives. Volunteers will focus on specific themes within the broader context of gender justice, contributing to a foundational report that will inform MDF's advocacy and design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design efforts. The project aims to identify barriers to women's empowerment, assess compatibility with international human rights standards, and propose context-sensitive strategies for improvement. This assignment is entirely remote, allowing volunteers to contribute from anywhere while collaborating with a diverse team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct literature reviews on international legal and human rights frameworks relevant to gender equality, including CEDAW and SDG
  • Summarize academic and institutional sources that discuss the influence of these frameworks on PNG's gender policies.
  • Identify and synthesize case studies that illustrate the lived experiences of women facing systemic challenges in PNG.
  • Provide thematic analyses of sociocultural and legal barriers to women's empowerment.
  • Examine national strategies and legislation targeting gender equality and evaluate their success and limitations.
  • Review successful women’s empowerment initiatives from other countries and analyze their adaptability to PNG's context.
  • Collaborate with other volunteers to enrich the analysis and contribute to the final report.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong research skills, particularly in literature review and analysis.
  • Familiarity with gender studies, human rights, or related fields.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and present it clearly.
  • Experience with academic writing and report preparation.
  • Knowledge of PNG's sociocultural context and gender issues is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in using online research databases and academic resources.

Educational Background:
A background in social sciences, gender studies, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a strong understanding of gender issues and human rights frameworks, ideally supported by relevant coursework or research experience.

Experience:
Previous experience in research, particularly related to gender justice, human rights, or community development, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting, managing their time effectively to meet project deadlines.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all research and reporting will be conducted in English. Knowledge of Tok Pisin or other local languages may be beneficial but is not required.
