Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) was established to communicate the values, history, and mandate of the United Nations and its actions in building a more peaceful, fair, and sustainable world. UNRIC engages with various partners, including civil society, media, public institutions, academia, the private sector, think tanks, and the creative community. The Centre provides communications support to United Nations agencies located in Brussels and collaborates with European Union institutions. UNRIC operates in 22 countries and works in 13 languages, organized by country and language, with nine Desk Officers covering designated areas. The organization aims to enhance the visibility and understanding of the UN's work and its impact on global issues.

Job Overview:

The role also involves media monitoring, where interns will liaise with relevant media outlets to ensure accurate representation of the UN's work. Furthermore, interns will engage with civil society, academia, and NGOs in relevant countries, facilitating communication and collaboration. Organizing events related to the UN's work in these countries is another key responsibility, providing interns with hands-on experience in event management and public outreach. Overall, this internship offers a comprehensive introduction to the workings of the UN and its communication strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the intern include, but are not limited to: assisting in writing and translating articles for the UNRIC website; updating and managing social media accounts, including drafting and editing content; conducting media monitoring and liaising with relevant media; maintaining daily communication with civil society, academia, and NGOs in relevant countries; assisting in the organization of events related to the UN's work; performing other duties as assigned by supervisors; and utilizing standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Interns are also encouraged to demonstrate their ability to draft news articles and social media posts, as well as design surveys and polls, which are desirable skills for this position.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). It is essential that applicants have a field of study closely related to the type of internship they are applying for. Additionally, applicants must be a student in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme. Proof of meeting these criteria must be attached to the application.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school programme or being in the final academic year of a first university degree programme. This means that candidates should have at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and those pursuing or having completed a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme are also eligible. The field of study should be closely related to the internship role, ensuring that candidates possess relevant knowledge and skills that align with the responsibilities of the position.

Experience:

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
