Job Posting Organization:
The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Children and Armed Conflict (OSRSG-CAAC) was established to address the impact of armed conflict on children. The office operates under the mandate derived from General Assembly Resolution 51/77 and subsequent resolutions, focusing on the protection and rights of children affected by armed conflict. It aims to foster international collaboration and advocacy for children's well-being in conflict zones. The office is part of the United Nations system and works closely with various stakeholders to promote awareness and action on children and armed conflict issues.

Job Overview:
The Communications Officer will play a crucial role in developing and executing communication strategies that aim to raise awareness and drive engagement regarding the protection of children affected by armed conflict. This position involves creating compelling content for various platforms, including social media and websites, to effectively communicate the UN's priorities and initiatives related to children in conflict. The officer will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of communication strategies, ensuring that they align with the objectives of the OSRSG-CAAC. The role requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to enhance outreach and advocacy efforts, thereby maximizing the impact of the office's work on a global scale.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: contributing to the development and implementation of communication strategies that effectively raise awareness and engage target audiences; participating in the coordination of strategic communications partnerships; creating and managing content for digital platforms; analyzing and reporting on the performance of digital content; drafting narratives and messaging for various channels; coordinating outreach and advocacy activities; managing budgets for outreach events; producing communications products such as press releases and reports; developing creative campaign concepts; promoting campaigns through media engagement; and monitoring campaign performance to inform future strategies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of communication principles and strategies, particularly in the context of international relations and humanitarian issues. They should demonstrate professionalism, effective communication skills, and technological awareness. The ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and adapt communication styles to different audiences is essential. Knowledge of digital media platforms and the ability to create engaging content tailored for these platforms is also required. Furthermore, candidates should be able to analyze and report on the effectiveness of communication initiatives.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level or advanced degree in any field of study, combined with two additional years of relevant work experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree in the specified fields. This educational background ensures that candidates have a solid foundation in communication theory and practice, which is critical for the role.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in communications, international relations, or a related area is required. This experience should include at least two years of knowledge of current and emerging digital media platforms and their principles. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to write effectively for digital platforms, such as social media and websites, particularly in the context of an international organization. Familiarity with the media landscape and trends, as well as the ability to develop and implement communication strategies, is desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is desirable, and familiarity with another official United Nations language is also considered an asset. Proficiency in multiple languages enhances communication capabilities and is beneficial for engaging with diverse audiences.

The appointment for this position is temporary and is available through to 31 December 2025, with the possibility of extension. This role may provide the successful applicant with valuable work experience, but it does not guarantee future employment in the same position.
