Job Overview:

The intern will report directly to the Deputy Regional Representative and collaborate with relevant Workstream Leads. The role involves monitoring and analyzing human rights developments, particularly concerning economic, social, and cultural rights, as well as the rights of women and youth. The intern will engage in research, drafting reports, and preparing daily updates on the human rights situation in East Africa. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in human rights advocacy and policy integration, while also contributing to the UN's efforts in promoting human rights in national and regional development strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include monitoring and analyzing human rights developments and trends in the East Africa region, particularly focusing on economic, social, and cultural rights, as well as gender equality. The intern will be tasked with researching and drafting internal and external notes and reports, preparing daily news updates regarding the human rights situation, and supporting stakeholder engagement with UN human rights mechanisms. Additionally, the intern will assist in integrating human rights perspectives into development policies and strategies, help organize workshops and seminars, participate in meetings and conferences, and take notes as requested. The intern may also be assigned other duties by the supervisor as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level university degree program (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) or in a graduate school program (Master's degree or higher). The preferred fields of study include law, human rights, international relations, public administration, political science, social sciences, or related areas. While no prior work experience is required, the applicant's education and skills should be relevant to the UN's mission and contribute positively during the internship.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in a relevant academic program at the time of application. This includes those in their final year of a Bachelor's degree or those pursuing a Master's degree or higher. The educational background should ideally be in fields related to human rights, law, international relations, or social sciences, which will provide the necessary foundation for the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
No prior work experience is necessary to apply for this internship. However, candidates should possess relevant training, education, or skills that would benefit the United Nations during their internship. Languages:
