Job Overview: The Language Trainer position is crucial in addressing the educational needs of Rohingya Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs) in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The Language Trainer will be responsible for planning and delivering language classes, assessing learners' progress, and mentoring co-trainers from the FDMN community. This position requires a deep understanding of the Myanmar Curriculum and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of learners with diverse backgrounds. The Language Trainer will also contribute to the implementation and monitoring of the Myanmar Curriculum, ensuring alignment with national education standards in Myanmar. This role is not only about teaching but also about building capacity within the community and fostering a supportive learning environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Language Trainer will undertake a variety of tasks under the guidance of the MYRP II Project Officer, including: planning and delivering Burmese language classes for 4-6 hours per day, four days a week; aligning lessons with the needs of FDMN volunteer teachers and NGO staff; assessing learners' progress and providing constructive feedback; submitting monthly progress reports; maintaining detailed lesson notes and records; participating in Continuous Professional Development workshops; collaborating with assistant trainers to overcome language and cultural barriers; mentoring FDMN co-trainers to build their capacity; supporting the monitoring of Myanmar Curriculum implementation; contributing to reflection sessions and adapting training delivery; and assisting in the selection of learning resources such as textbooks and multimedia materials.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in education, applied linguistics, or a related field, along with a recognized teaching qualification. Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications. A strong command of the Burmese language and proficiency in English at a B2+ level are essential. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of language teaching methodologies and possess the ability to adapt their teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners. Experience in refugee or low-resource settings, teacher mentorship, and the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) will be advantageous.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in education, applied linguistics, or a related field is required.
