Job Overview: The Communications Expert (Outreach Focus) will play a crucial role in supporting ERONet's participation in The Human Race 2025 campaign, which is organized by HSI. This campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of girls' education and grassroots STEM innovation in underserved regions. The expert will be responsible for coordinating messaging and outreach strategies to enhance global visibility for ERONet's mission without relying on paid advertisements or fundraising appeals. The role involves creating a communications calendar, identifying relevant online communities, and advising on outreach strategies to engage supporters effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Create a 3-month outreach calendar (June–August) that outlines key posting dates and themes for the campaign.
Identify relevant online communities and groups, such as diaspora forums, university clubs, and women’s networks, where ERONet can promote the campaign.
Draft a comprehensive list of outreach channels for staff to utilize in promoting the campaign.
Recommend tailored messaging and hashtags for each identified group or platform to maximize engagement.
Collaborate with the social mediavolunteer to synchronize timing and topics for outreach efforts.
Provide weekly progress updates via Google Doc or email to keep the team informed of developments.
Work closely with ERONet’s director and other online volunteers, including those focused on social media and graphic design, to ensure cohesive messaging and outreach efforts.
Prepare materials for ERONet’s team to use in their outreach efforts, without the need to send messages or post directly.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational skills, be proactive in their approach, and have a background in communications or outreach. Familiarity with online community engagement and social media strategies is essential. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and communicate effectively through digital platforms.
Educational Background: A degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant experience in community outreach or nonprofit communications will also be considered favorably, even if they do not hold a formal degree in the specified areas.
Experience: Candidates should have prior experience in communications, outreach, or community engagement roles. Experience working with nonprofit organizations, particularly in contexts related to women's empowerment or education, will be highly valued. Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms is also important.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communication will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in Uganda or the local dialects may be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: This position is a volunteer role, and the selected candidate will receive a UNV Certificate of Appreciation upon completion of their assignment. The role is part-time and will require collaboration with other volunteers and staff members. The campaign will take place from August 16–24, 2025, and the outreach efforts will be focused on the months leading up to this event.
