Job Posting Organization: ERONet (Enabling Rural Opportunity Network) is a grassroots organization that was formally known as the Agoro Community Development Association (ACDA). Established in 2001, ERONet is based in Lamwo District, Northern Uganda, and focuses on supporting rural women and girls, refugee populations, and post-conflict communities. The organization aims to tackle gender inequality, economic hardship, and social exclusion through community-driven, sustainable, and rights-based programs. ERONet's mission is to empower women, girls, and vulnerable rural populations in post-conflict settings to achieve economic independence, gender equality, and social inclusion.
Job Overview: The Social Media Content Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting ERONet's global campaign for The Human Race 2025, a virtual walk/run/ride event scheduled from August 16–24, 202
This campaign aims to raise awareness for ERONet’s mission to empower rural girls in refugee-prone Northern Uganda through education and STEM-focused innovation. The volunteer will be responsible for creating engaging content that promotes the campaign across various social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, and LinkedIn. The role requires creativity and enthusiasm to help amplify the voices from one of Uganda’s most underserved regions and mobilize support through online storytelling and outreach, without any direct fundraising involved.
Duties and Responsibilities: The volunteer will draft 2–3 social media posts per week, focusing on text content. They will propose themes, hashtags, and simple campaign messages to enhance visibility. Additionally, the volunteer will recommend Facebook groups, online forums, or digital communities where ERONet could share the campaign for increased outreach. Collaboration with design and web volunteers is essential to ensure that visuals and links align with the content. The volunteer may also have the opportunity to translate content into other languages, such as German and French, although this is optional. Weekly updates will be shared via email or LinkedIn, and all communication will occur through email and WhatsApp, allowing for flexible timelines. It is important to note that volunteers will not post on behalf of ERONet; instead, they will provide content and advice for ERONet staff to post directly.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess strong writing skills and creativity in developing engaging social media content. Familiarity with various social media platforms and their best practices is essential. The volunteer should be able to work independently and collaboratively with other online volunteers and event organizers. A passion for social issues, particularly those affecting women and girls in post-conflict settings, is highly desirable. Additionally, the ability to propose innovative ideas for content and outreach strategies will be beneficial.
Educational Background: While specific educational qualifications are not explicitly stated, a background in communications, marketing, social media management, or a related field would be advantageous. Experience in content creation or volunteer work in similar organizations may also be considered valuable.
Experience: The position is suitable for individuals who may not have extensive professional experience but possess a strong interest in social media and community engagement. Previous volunteer experience or internships related to social media content creation or nonprofit work would be beneficial but not mandatory.
Languages: While English is the primary language for communication, knowledge of additional languages such as German and French is considered a plus, especially for content translation purposes. This could enhance the campaign's reach and inclusivity.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the assignment is not specified. The role is flexible, allowing volunteers to work independently or in coordination with others. At the conclusion of the assignment, volunteers will receive a Certificate of Appreciation from UNV, acknowledging their contributions to ERONet’s global campaign.
