Job Posting Organization:
ERONet (Enabling Rural Opportunity Network) is a grassroots organization established in 2001, originally known as Agoro Community Development Association (ACDA). It is based in Lamwo District, Northern Uganda, and focuses on supporting rural women and girls, refugee populations, and post-conflict communities. The organization aims to tackle gender inequality, economic hardship, and social exclusion through various initiatives. ERONet has evolved into a legally registered Community-Based Organization (CBO) and has been actively working in Lamwo and surrounding districts to empower rural communities, particularly women and girls, through education, economic empowerment, water and sanitation (WASH), and environmental conservation. The organization is committed to establishing strong partnerships with local authorities to enhance its impact and effectiveness in program implementation.

Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position at ERONet involves supporting the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ERONet and the local district authorities in Northern Uganda. This role is crucial as it aims to formalize partnerships that will facilitate effective coordination and accountability in the implementation of programs. The volunteer will collaborate closely with the ERONet leadership team to gain insights into the local context and ensure that the MoU is tailored to meet the specific needs of each district. The position requires a proactive approach to understanding the dynamics of local governance and community engagement, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing the organization's relationships with local governments, thereby contributing to the overall mission of empowering rural communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the ERONet leadership team to understand the local context and the specific needs of each district.
  • Research best practices for drafting effective Memoranda of Understanding in similar contexts.
  • Draft a standard MoU template that can be adapted for use with different districts.
  • Facilitate discussions with local authorities to gather input and feedback on the MoU draft.
  • Revise the MoU based on feedback received from stakeholders to ensure clarity and mutual understanding.
  • Assist in the finalization of the MoU and support its dissemination to relevant parties.
  • Provide recommendations for ongoing engagement with local governments to strengthen partnerships.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and concise documents.
  • Understanding of local governance structures and community engagement processes.
  • Experience in working with non-profit organizations or community-based organizations is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using online collaboration tools and platforms for communication and document sharing.

Educational Background:
A background in social sciences, law, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant experience in community development or public policy may also be considered, even if they do not have formal educational qualifications in these areas.

Experience:
Previous experience in drafting legal documents, such as agreements or memoranda, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the challenges faced by rural communities in Uganda, particularly regarding gender issues and social inclusion, will be beneficial. Experience working in a volunteer capacity or with grassroots organizations is a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Northern Uganda would be an asset, as it may facilitate better communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and while it may not offer financial compensation, it provides valuable experience in community engagement and partnership development. The role can be performed remotely, allowing flexibility in working hours. The duration of the volunteer engagement is not specified, but it is expected to align with the timeline for drafting and finalizing the MoU.
