Job Overview: The Portfolio Associate position at UNOPS is integral to supporting projects under the Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP). The role involves providing effective and efficient support in administration, project management, travel, and procurement for DSIP’s clients and projects. The Portfolio Associate is expected to ensure that project operations align with UNOPS rules and regulations, delivering projects according to their defined scope, quality requirements, timelines, and budgets. The incumbent will report directly to the DSIP Project Manager and will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall success of the projects.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Portfolio Associate will undertake a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: ensuring alignment of implemented activities with approved project agreements; maintaining accurate data and information for effective operations; contributing to project reports and analyses; establishing and maintaining project documentation; identifying and assessing risks and implementing mitigation measures; drafting reports as required; assisting with budgetary and financial monitoring; supporting event logistics and coordination; managing project assets; facilitating calls for proposals and grant awards; and performing other duties as assigned. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and effective communication with various stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of project objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a secondary school diploma (or equivalent) with six years of relevant experience, or an advanced university degree (Master’s) with no relevant experience, or a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s) with two years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes operations, project management, program management, and administration. Proficiency in MS Excel and Word or Google Sheets and Google Docs is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a secondary school diploma (or high school equivalent) with six years of relevant experience, or an advanced university degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) with no relevant experience, or a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree, undergraduate or equivalent) with two years of relevant experience. This educational background ensures that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of the Portfolio Associate effectively.
Experience: The position requires relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: operations, project management, program management, and administration. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing projects and supporting administrative functions, demonstrating their ability to contribute to the success of the projects they will be involved in. Experience in a UN or similar international organization is advantageous but not mandatory, as candidates without such experience are also encouraged to apply.
Languages: Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking) is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication within the team and with external partners. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in a diverse international environment.
Additional Notes: The contract type for this position is an Individual Contractor Agreement (ICA) at the Local Individual Contractor Agreement (LICA-6) level. The contract duration is open-ended and renewable, subject to the availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The position is set for a duration up to December 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance.
