Job Overview:
The Research Officer position is situated within the Social Dialogue, Labour Relations and Governance of Work Branch (LABGOV) of the Governance and Tripartism Department. The primary function of this role is to conduct research and contribute to the drafting of various documents related to social dialogue and industrial relations. The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing trends and systems in social dialogue, preparing reports, and providing empirical analysis for significant publications, including the recurrent item report on social dialogue for the International Labour Conference in 202
  • The role requires a proactive approach to identifying and addressing the needs of constituents, ensuring that the ILO's objectives in promoting effective governance of work are met. The Research Officer will also engage in capacity-building activities and support the dissemination of knowledge through workshops and seminars, thereby enhancing the impact of social dialogue in policy-making processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The specific duties of the Research Officer include:
  • Identifying, collecting, and analyzing data on social dialogue and tripartism, ensuring the information is relevant to LABGOV's mandate.
  • Conducting comprehensive research, including literature reviews, and participating in the drafting of studies, reports, and technical briefs.
  • Assisting in the preparation of training materials and contributing to presentations for various policy forums and training seminars.
  • Engaging in activities that align with the ILO Programme and Budget, addressing constituents' needs and priorities.
  • Supporting the dissemination and communication strategies of LABGOV, including organizing workshops and drafting promotional materials.
  • Performing additional relevant duties as assigned, which may include compiling databases, analyzing data for program development, and assisting in technical missions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in industrial relations or social sciences. Additionally, they should have at least three years of proven research experience in the field of social dialogue and industrial relations. The role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to draft comprehensive reports and technical documents. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and possess good drafting and computer skills.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a first-level university degree, which can be a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in fields related to industrial relations or social sciences. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of labor relations and social dialogue, which are critical to the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant research experience in social dialogue and industrial relations. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to conduct thorough research, analyze data, and contribute to the development of policy recommendations based on empirical evidence. Candidates should have a track record of producing high-quality research outputs and engaging with stakeholders in the field.

Languages:
A strong command of English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the ILO. Additionally, a working knowledge of French or Spanish would be advantageous, as it would facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders and enhance the candidate's ability to engage in international contexts.
