Job Overview: The Investment Officer position is a critical role within the Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services (MAS) team in Africa at IFC. The selected candidate will be based in Rabat, Morocco, and will provide specialized expertise in the Services and Manufacturing sectors. This role demands strong technical skills in sourcing, structuring, negotiating, and executing transactions, as well as managing portfolios effectively. The Investment Officer will play a significant role in developing strategies to enhance IFC's Services business in Africa while also handling day-to-day responsibilities related to transaction leadership and portfolio management. Reporting to the IFC Regional Industry Manager for Services, the officer will collaborate closely with colleagues in both the Africa region and Washington, DC, focusing on business development, investment execution, and client relationship management in sectors such as tourism, retail, property, health, and education.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Investment Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: developing a robust pipeline of high-quality investment opportunities through proactive business development and leveraging sector and country knowledge; leading transaction teams to evaluate, structure, negotiate, and finalize new transactions, as well as managing portfolio restructurings and capital increases; creating innovative financial structures for complex transactions involving debt, equity, and mezzanine investments; effectively communicating credit analysis and investment proposals both verbally and in writing; negotiating term sheets and legal documentation while employing strong negotiation skills to resolve issues; ensuring high-quality client service throughout the project cycle; building and maintaining strong relationships with regional clients, businesses, banking partners, and government officials; mentoring junior staff; assisting in the formulation and monitoring of IFC's strategy in the Services sectors in Africa; coordinating with social, environmental, governance, and technical assistance teams to enhance client value; and providing thought leadership within the team, particularly regarding the Services sectors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an MBA or a Master’s degree in Finance or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 11 years of relevant work experience in a private equity firm, commercial bank, investment bank, or international financial institution with a significant presence in emerging markets is required. The ideal candidate should have experience in a lead role in investment transactions, demonstrating a successful track record in developing client relationships and effectively addressing client needs. Strong expertise in the services sectors, including tourism, retail, commercial and residential property, health, and education, is essential, along with relevant experience in originating and structuring transactions in these areas. Knowledge of investing in emerging markets and a strong network in North and/or West Africa will be advantageous. Candidates should also demonstrate strong business development skills, financial acumen, and the ability to interact with senior management and government officials.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an MBA or a Master’s degree in Finance or an equivalent qualification. This advanced education is crucial for understanding complex financial instruments and investment strategies necessary for the role.
Experience: The position requires at least 11 years of relevant work experience in investment-related roles, particularly within private equity firms, commercial banks, investment banks, or international financial institutions. Candidates should have a proven track record in leading investment transactions and developing strong client relationships, with a focus on client needs and effective sourcing, negotiating, structuring, and closing of quality investments.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in French is highly advantageous. Strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages are essential for effective interaction with clients and stakeholders.
