Job Overview: The Forest Land and Agriculture Undergraduate Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Climate Business Network (CBN) at WWF, which is a collaborative initiative involving influential companies aimed at promoting sustainability and mitigating climate change. The intern will assist in tracking corporate climate mitigation efforts specifically related to land sector emissions. This position involves analyzing data from public disclosure databases to compile information on company mitigation targets and the expected reductions in emissions. The intern will work closely with the CBN Team to enhance WWF's capacity to support businesses in achieving their sustainability goals, particularly in the land sector.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive review of corporate climate and sustainability disclosures, following established methodologies. Key duties include collecting and analyzing data on corporate land sector mitigation efforts, compiling greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories for companies with FLAG targets, and organizing this data into a centralized database. The intern will also estimate the share of GHG emissions that are attributed to FLAG activities and determine the necessary reductions to meet corporate targets. Additionally, the intern will collaborate with WWF experts to gain insights into corporate climate engagement and the actions taken by industry leaders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in corporate climate change mitigation, particularly in the land sector. They should be pursuing a degree in environmental science or a related field. Proficiency in data management and experience with Excel are essential. Preferred qualifications include subject knowledge in agriculture, forestry, climate change, corporate sustainability, land sector decarbonization, and GHG emissions. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn and contribute to WWF's mission.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, ideally in environmental studies, sustainability, or a related discipline. A strong academic background in these areas will be beneficial for understanding the complexities of climate change mitigation and corporate sustainability efforts.
Experience: While prior experience in a professional setting is not mandatory, any relevant internships, volunteer work, or academic projects related to environmental science, sustainability, or corporate climate initiatives will be advantageous. The intern should be prepared to engage with complex data and contribute to meaningful research outcomes.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in English. Additional language skills may be considered a plus but are not required for this position.
Additional Notes: This internship offers flexible working arrangements, allowing for either hybrid or fully remote work options. The supervisor for this position will be remote, while the team is based in Washington, D.C. Compensation for this internship is set at $20.50 per hour for current undergraduate students.
