Job Overview:
The Senior Safeguards Analyst (Technology) is a pivotal role within the IAEA's Department of Safeguards, which is responsible for the verification of nuclear materials and activities to ensure compliance with international agreements. The analyst will provide expert analysis on the development and use of these technologies by States, contributing to the IAEA's evaluations and in-field verification activities. The role involves preparing technical reports, advising senior management, and mentoring junior staff, all while ensuring that the IAEA's safeguards obligations are met. The analyst will engage in complex data analysis and validation, supporting the organization's mission to prevent nuclear proliferation and enhance global security.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Safeguards Analyst (Technology) will be responsible for providing expert technical advice on sensitive technologies and potential proliferation issues. Key duties include performing technical assessments of safeguards-relevant information, preparing technical reports, and contributing to the State evaluation process. The analyst will participate in the continuous collection and analysis of open-source information related to nuclear activities, assist in the planning of field activities, and maintain close working relationships with operational partners. Additionally, the analyst will train and guide other staff, oversee the work of junior colleagues, and contribute to the development of safeguards approaches and training programs within the department.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in nuclear science, engineering, metallurgy, materials science, chemistry, physics, electronics, instrumentation, computer science, or a related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in one of these fields combined with two years of additional relevant experience may be considered. The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant practical and theoretical experience in science and technology, particularly in areas such as nuclear hydrodynamics, energetic materials, and high-speed diagnostics. Candidates should have extensive experience in secure environments related to sensitive nuclear technologies and proven expertise in handling sensitive technical information.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's) in a relevant field such as nuclear science or engineering, or a related discipline. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's) may be acceptable if accompanied by additional relevant experience. The educational qualifications should reflect a strong foundation in the scientific principles and technical aspects of nuclear technologies and safeguards.

Experience:
The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in the field of nuclear science and technology, with a focus on integrating design, experimentation, and maintenance of nuclear-related infrastructure. Experience in a secure/restricted information environment is essential, particularly in relation to sensitive nuclear explosive technologies. Candidates should also have a track record of working with international organizations or national authorities on nuclear non-proliferation issues.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
The IAEA offers a competitive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $101,540, along with a variable post adjustment, dependency benefits, rental subsidies, and other allowances. Employees are entitled to six weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, and health insurance.
