The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, lasting between 2 to 6 months. Interns will engage in various activities, including practicing translation techniques, utilizing translation applications, and contributing to the work of the Chinese Desktop Publishing Team (CDPT). Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a range of activities that support the work of the Chinese Translation Section. These include:
Practicing and upgrading general capabilities and specific skills in the use of various translation applications, particularly the terminology database eLuna, to enhance translation accuracy and efficiency.
Learning and performing tasks related to the Chinese Desktop Publishing Team, under the supervision of the Team Supervisor, which may involve formatting documents and ensuring they meet UN standards.
Participating in translation projects, assisting in the translation of documents from English to Chinese and vice versa, while adhering to the guidelines and quality standards set by the UN.
Engaging in training sessions and workshops organized by the CTS to further develop translation and desktop publishing skills.
Collaborating with other interns and staff members to foster a supportive learning environment and share knowledge and experiences related to translation work.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet specific criteria:
Enrollment in or completion of a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or enrollment in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level).
A background in translation studies, particularly with a focus on the Chinese language, is highly advantageous.
Proficiency in standard software applications is essential, as interns will be expected to utilize various digital tools in their work.
A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals, as well as the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field, such as Translation, Linguistics, or a related discipline. For this internship, a Master's degree in Translation from a Chinese language university or translation school is particularly beneficial.
