Job Overview:
The Associate Public Information Officer plays a crucial role in the planning, production, monitoring, and reporting of activities related to the United Nations' partnerships within the Democratic Republic of Congo. This position requires the incumbent to develop communication plans, coordinate activities, and prepare progress reports while analyzing results to ensure effective communication strategies. The officer will supervise the preparation of various documents needed by the administration and manage archives to preserve important content. Additionally, the role involves producing radio and public service content tailored for target audiences, conducting research to identify appropriate media channels, and preparing production schedules. The officer will also be responsible for creating and disseminating information for programs and donors, writing human interest stories, and managing digital content for Radio Okapi's social media platforms. The position requires a proactive approach to reporting on donor attitudes and trends, drafting promotional materials, and supporting the development of budgets and implementation plans for partnership projects. The Associate Public Information Officer will also produce multimedia content to highlight programs and donors, ensuring that all communications are accurate, relevant, and up to date.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Public Information Officer include:
  • Assisting in the planning, production, and monitoring of SCPID/Radio Okapi activities.
  • Developing and coordinating communication plans and activities.
  • Preparing progress reports and analyzing results.
  • Supervising the preparation of reports, memos, and other documents.
  • Managing archives and ensuring the preservation of content.
  • Producing radio and public service content for target audiences.
  • Conducting research to identify appropriate media and audiences.
  • Writing human interest stories and preparing digital content for social media.
  • Reporting on donor attitudes and trends. 1

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Journalism, Communication, Public Information, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level degree combined with two years of relevant experience may be acceptable. The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in journalism, partnerships, communications, or public information. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to support the development of budgets and implementation plans for partnership projects and monitor and coordinate these projects effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as Journalism, Communication, Public Information, or a related area. A first-level degree may be acceptable if combined with additional relevant experience, specifically two years of professional experience in the field.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in journalism, partnerships, communications, or public information. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in supporting the development of budgets and implementation plans for partnership projects, as well as the ability to monitor and coordinate these projects effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and French is required for this position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, fluency in one national language of the Democratic Republic of Congo is required, and knowledge of other languages is considered an advantage.

This job opening is intended to identify the most qualified candidate for the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO). Candidates who are endorsed but not selected will be placed on the ASSOCIATE PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER, NO-B roster. The assessment process may take up to six months, and all applicants will be notified of the outcome within 14 days of the conclusion of the process. Successful candidates will be placed on the roster and invited to apply for field mission vacancies open only to roster members. The appointment is for an initial period of one year, subject to the availability of the post or funds.
