Job Overview:
The Head of Communications at CIMMYT will play a pivotal role in leading the organization's strategic communications efforts. This position is designed for an outstanding, self-motivated, and result-oriented professional who will be responsible for developing and executing a global communications plan that aligns with CIMMYT's mission. The successful candidate will support fundraising initiatives, advocate for CIMMYT's mission, and amplify the organization's impact in advancing nutrition" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food and nutrition security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. Reporting to the Chief Engagement Officer, the Head of Communications will be integral to the Engagement Chapter, ensuring that CIMMYT's communications strategies effectively reach diverse audiences and stakeholders. This role requires a deep understanding of communication trends and technologies, as well as the ability to manage crisis communications and maintain a consistent brand voice across various platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Head of Communications will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: designing and executing a global communications strategy that supports CIMMYT's mission; leading strategic communications for fundraising efforts; providing counsel to CIMMYT's executive team; coordinating with the CGIAR Communications & Outreach Global Group; managing internal and external communications across multiple regions; overseeing the creation of high-quality content for various channels; leading media relations efforts; managing digital communications; mentoring and managing a team of development professionals; developing and managing departmental budgets; ensuring quality assurance in executive communications; and supervising a multicultural team to maximize productivity and innovation. The role also involves developing systems to monitor and evaluate team performance and promoting adherence to CIMMYT's culture and values.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in communications, journalism, digital communications, marketing, or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in communications is required, with at least five years in a comparable position. Strong editorial skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and proficiency in digital communication tools are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to develop and implement strategic communication plans, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing priorities. Experience in media relations and familiarity with fundraising strategies in international development contexts are also important. A commitment to integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct is expected, along with a passion for CIMMYT's mission.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree in communications, journalism, digital communications, marketing, or a similar related field is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and their implementation in a global context.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in communications, with a strong preference for experience in agricultural research, international development, or related sectors. At least five years of this experience should be in a comparable leadership position, demonstrating the ability to manage teams and develop effective communication strategies.

Languages:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Spanish, is considered a strong asset, as it will enhance the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and stakeholders across different regions.

Additional Notes:
This position is initially fixed-term for three years, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
