Job Overview: The Associate Statistics Officer (Data Science) position is a critical role within the Data Division of the Economic Research and Development Impact Department at ADB. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about using data science to drive impactful decisions and policies in the Asia-Pacific region. The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing the technical capabilities of the Data Division, particularly in areas related to environment, biodiversity, and climate change. The role involves contributing to the department's statistical and economic research efforts, preparing key indicators for Asia and the Pacific, and supporting data capacity building initiatives in developing member countries (DMCs). The Associate Statistics Officer will also engage in quantitative analyses, technical assistance, and administrative tasks, working closely with the Director and Senior Officer of the Data Division. Duties and Responsibilities: The Associate Statistics Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Contributing to the preparation of ADB publications, working papers, peer-reviewed journal articles, and briefs for management.
Developing and implementing capacity-building activities for both ADB staff and stakeholders in developing member countries, including the creation of training materials.
Supporting data science and AI projects relevant to ADB operations, overseeing project design, data management, preprocessing, and analysis of findings.
Managing technical assistance projects, ensuring high-quality implementation and administration.
Conducting peer reviews of colleagues' work and supervising research associates, consultants, and project analysts to ensure timely and high-quality outputs.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Associate Statistics Officer position must possess a Master's degree in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of specialized experience in topics related to environment, biodiversity, and sustainability is required. A PhD in a relevant field is considered a distinct advantage. Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of high-quality research output and publications in international peer-reviewed journals related to economics or data science. In-depth knowledge of the research process and excellent project management skills are essential. Proficiency in statistical and econometric software such as STATA, Python, R, and SQL, as well as experience with database applications and automated routines, is also required.
