Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) in the Philippines plays a pivotal role in leading the UN Country Team (UNCT) and representing the UN Secretary General. The UNRCO is dedicated to ensuring effective coordination and implementation of United Nations initiatives within the country. The office focuses on cross-functional coordination, strategic planning, partnerships, development finance, data management, results reporting, communications, and advocacy. The UNRCO is part of a larger global organization that operates in numerous countries, working towards sustainable development and humanitarian efforts.

Job Overview:
This internship offers a unique opportunity for young professionals to gain first-hand work experience in a dynamic international team while supporting the sustainable development agenda in the Philippines. The intern will assist the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO) with various programmatic tasks, research, and data analysis. The role is designed to contribute to strategic partnerships and advance innovative development finance solutions that support the acceleration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and align with national priorities. Interns will engage in mapping and analyzing key stakeholders, preparing financial analyses, and supporting inter-agency work and joint programs, thereby gaining valuable insights into the workings of international development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Partnership Engagement, Research, and Data Analysis: - Support the mapping and analysis of key stakeholders, including government entities, donors, private sector representatives, civil society organizations, and youth groups. - Assist in preparing financial analyses, donor profiles, and resource mobilization briefs to facilitate the implementation of the 2024-2028 United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and broader development priorities in the Philippines. - Contribute to the RCO's inter-agency work and joint programs.
  • Coordination Support: - Help organize partnership platforms, workshops, learning visits, and dialogues aimed at catalyzing multi-stakeholder action. - Assist in organizing hybrid and digitally enabled coordination meetings, workshops, and events related to RCO initiatives. - Support the preparation and drafting of actionable documentation, including minutes, summaries, and follow-up action points from meetings.
  • Knowledge Management: - Aid in the preparation of briefing notes, background papers, and knowledge products on partnership and finance trends, best practices, and lessons learned. - Document and disseminate case studies on successful partnership and finance initiatives, including mechanisms for replication and scaling. - Support the maintenance and improvement of the UN Philippines SharePoint repository for partnership and finance resources. The intern will report to the RCO Head of Office through the RCO Senior Economist and other team members as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
This internship is exclusively open to Filipino citizens. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Candidates should be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in public administration, diplomacy and international affairs, development studies, international relations, statistics, data science, or related fields. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential, along with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and adapt to team dynamics.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a background in relevant fields such as public administration, international relations, development studies, statistics, or data science. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required, with preference given to those who have completed or are enrolled in a graduate program.

Experience:
The internship is designed for individuals who are either currently enrolled in a degree program or have recently graduated. While specific prior work experience is not mandated, any relevant experience in research, data analysis, or international development will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Filipino are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered beneficial but is not required.

The internship will last for a duration of two to six months, depending on the candidate’s availability, with a tentative start date in January 202
  • The intern will be based in Mandaluyong City, Philippines, and this is an in-person engagement. Remote work arrangements may be considered on an exceptional, day-by-day basis, depending on circumstances and the nature of tasks assigned. It is important to note that this internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Additionally, the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
