Job Posting Organization:
The Internal Audit and Investigations Group (IAIG) is a part of UNOPS, which is dedicated to providing audit, investigation, and advisory services. The organization aims to ensure high standards of governance, risk management, and accountability. Job Overview:
The Head of Internal Audit will report directly to the Director of IAIG and will be responsible for leading the internal audit function within UNOPS. This role involves developing and executing a risk-based annual Internal Audit Plan, ensuring that audits are conducted effectively and efficiently. The Head of Internal Audit will also be tasked with monitoring the implementation of audit recommendations and collaborating closely with the Investigations team to address any identified control gaps. The position requires a strategic mindset to enhance governance and risk management processes while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Head of Internal Audit will have several key functions, including:
  • Strategic development: Develop and monitor the annual Internal Audit Plan, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Coordinate and execute up to 10 internal audits and 60 project audits annually.
  • Quality assurance: Oversee the quality of audit reports, ensuring they meet public reporting standards. Collaborate with the Investigations Section to identify control gaps and propose remedial actions.
  • Knowledge management and innovation: Conduct management reviews and consulting projects, support training workshops, and liaise with other UN agencies and stakeholders.
  • Team Leadership: Establish and monitor the annual work plan for the Internal Audit Team, promote teamwork, and foster a positive work environment. Provide guidance and mentoring to team members to enhance their professional growth.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Accounting, Auditing, or Finance. A first-level degree combined with additional relevant experience may be accepted. Professional certifications such as CA, CPA, CFE, or CIA are highly desired. Candidates should have a strong understanding of auditing standards and practices, as well as experience in risk management and governance.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in a relevant field is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor or equivalent) may be accepted if combined with two additional years of relevant professional experience. Professional certifications in accounting or auditing are highly desirable and will enhance a candidate's qualifications.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 10 years of professional experience in auditing, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role overseeing an audit team. Experience in leading and executing audits, particularly within UN organizations or international financial institutions, is preferred. Familiarity with project management tools and data analytics is considered an asset, as is experience in IT and cybersecurity audits.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.

The position is a staff contract at the P5 level, with an initial duration of one year, subject to renewal based on performance and funding availability.
