Job Overview: The Technical Writer position is a home-based role within the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP) retainer pool. This is not a full-time position; retainers are engaged on an intermittent basis, meaning there are no guaranteed minimum working hours or days. The Technical Writer will work under the supervision of the Senior Programme Manager and collaborate closely with the ETP Senior Communications Officer and the programme team. Upon signing the contract, the Technical Writer will develop a workplan that can be updated periodically to meet ETP's evolving needs. The role involves creating a variety of written materials, including reports, proposals, and case studies, ensuring that all narratives align with ETP's Results-Based Monitoring Framework (RBMF). The primary goal is to effectively communicate ETP's program results and impact to targeted audiences, thereby contributing to fundraising efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Writer will be responsible for a comprehensive set of tasks, including: reviewing ETP programme/project documents and reports to understand the areas of work and energy transition topics; gathering and synthesizing data to draft content in coordination with ETP staff; ensuring accuracy and consistency in messaging; drafting narratives that are grounded in ETP's Theory of Change and RBMF; ensuring clarity and comprehensibility of written content for non-technical audiences; participating in programme team meetings to stay updated on relevant topics; proofreading external-facing content for linguistic and grammatical accuracy; collaborating with ETP staff to refine written content based on feedback; and performing additional writing, editing, or proofreading tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or similar) in English Language, English Literature, Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Environmental Studies, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in these fields, combined with two years of relevant experience, may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant experience in technical writing and editing, with a desirable understanding of climate change or energy transition topics. Experience working with the UN and/or EU editorial style guide is also preferred, along with strong research and analytical skills and good knowledge of Google-suite applications.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s or similar) in relevant fields such as English Language, English Literature, Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Environmental Studies, or a related field is required. A first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in the aforementioned fields, along with two years of relevant experience, may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant experience in technical writing and editing or a similar role is required. Candidates with an understanding of climate change or energy transition topics will be preferred. Experience with the UN and/or EU editorial style guide is also desirable, as well as strong research and analytical skills.
Languages: Fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of another official UNOPS language is considered an asset.

The contract duration is one year, with up to 200 working days and the possibility of extension.
