Job Overview: The Telecommunications Assistant will play a crucial role in the Service Design and Provisioning Team (SDP) within the Information Technology Service (ITS). This position involves direct supervision by the Senior Information Technology Assistant and overall supervision by the Service Delivery Officer. The incumbent will be responsible for managing telecommunications services, including mobile telephony, audio/video conferencing, and administrative coordination. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure optimal technical operations and support for users, including monitoring consumption, coordinating transitions to new providers, and maintaining databases related to telecommunication inventory and billing. The Telecommunications Assistant will also provide technical assistance and support for mobile communications-related issues, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Telecommunications Assistant will have a wide range of responsibilities, including acting as the focal point for official mobile telephony, monitoring users' consumption, coordinating transitions to new providers, maintaining telecommunication databases, and providing support for audio/video conferencing setups. The incumbent will also be responsible for evaluating new IT tools, preparing training materials, assisting with data collection and analysis, and performing other work-related duties as required. Specific tasks include coordinating VPN management, conducting technical evaluations for procurement, and assisting colleagues in the Webcasting office. The role requires strong organizational skills to distribute work assignments, monitor progress, and liaise with other areas of ITS to facilitate service requests.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in office automation, telecommunications, and related functions is required. This experience can be reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Solid knowledge and experience with videoconferencing devices and mobile communications services are essential. Experience in providing conference support and guiding teams is desirable. Familiarity with the United Nations Secretariat or similar international organizations is also an advantage.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. However, candidates with a first-level university degree or higher may have their relevant experience requirement reduced, indicating that higher education is valued and can enhance a candidate's eligibility for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in office automation and telecommunications-related functions. This includes experience with software, local area networks, hardware/software configuration, and troubleshooting.
