The engineer will also be responsible for integrating commercial software solutions and ensuring that the software developed aligns with CERN's safety policies. Duties and Responsibilities: As a Computing Engineer, you will be tasked with several key responsibilities:
Design and implement the architecture of databases and web applications that support safety initiatives at CERN.
Organize and provide support, maintenance, and operational services for existing software solutions.
Investigate and resolve operational issues in collaboration with end-users, including safety specialists and IT operations teams.
Drive performance studies and optimization initiatives to enhance software efficiency.
Collaborate with other software engineers to share knowledge and best practices.
Communicate effectively with end-users to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Promote and develop procedures to improve software quality, including implementing continuous integration and automated testing.
Mentor junior developers to foster their professional growth and integration into the team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Additionally, extensive experience in software development, particularly in web applications, is required. This includes proficiency in designing user interfaces, managing databases, and understanding the software development life cycle. Experience in stakeholder management, user support, and user training is also essential. Candidates should demonstrate technical competencies in programming languages such as Java, Spring Boot, and React, as well as knowledge of RESTful APIs and database design.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field is required for this position. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered. The educational background should include a strong foundation in software development principles and practices, as well as familiarity with database management and web application design.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in software development, particularly in the maintenance and development of web applications. This includes a solid understanding of user interface design, backend development, and data management. Experience in stakeholder management and user support is crucial, as is familiarity with the software development life cycle, including unit testing and version control. Candidates should also have experience in mentoring and supervising team members, as well as knowledge of project management principles.
