Job Overview: The LAN Systems Administrator position is crucial for ensuring the efficient operation of local area network (LAN) services within the OSCE Mission in Kosovo. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering LAN services, which includes managing user accounts, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting network issues. Duties and Responsibilities:
Administer LAN services to ensure efficient network operation, including managing user accounts, reviewing backups for completeness and accuracy, monitoring system performance and resources, troubleshooting, and managing all networking devices such as switches, fiber optic connections, and wireless infrastructure.
Install, upgrade, replace, and maintain LAN hardware and system software.
Perform security-related functions such as password management, encryption, backups, and anti-virus protection.
Assist in conducting periodic reviews to ensure effective use of LAN equipment and system software, meeting end-user requirements, and implementing necessary upgrades.
Provide second-level support to the Help Desk and assist in resolving server and LAN-related problems, including training other ICT staff as required.
Offer first-level LAN support to ICT staff in OMiK HQ and field locations, providing advice and guidance, and traveling to these locations as necessary.
Contribute to the maintenance and updating of LAN-related documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), recording hardware/software updates, and drafting notices for users regarding network developments and software changes.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed secondary education, supplemented by technical training in ICT systems/infrastructure engineering and administration. Relevant Microsoft and Cisco certifications are required, along with a valid driving license. A minimum of six years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and administration of advanced office computer hardware, software, and networking (LAN) equipment is essential, with at least one year of experience in administering a Microsoft Windows server-based LAN of 50 or more users. Experience with UNIX/Linux-based server operating systems is desirable, as is proficiency in current Microsoft Office products and Windows client operating systems. Candidates should have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve hardware and software issues. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and local languages are mandatory, along with demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), with additional technical training in ICT systems or infrastructure engineering and administration. Relevant certifications from recognized organizations such as Microsoft and Cisco are also necessary to validate the candidate's expertise in managing LAN systems and related technologies.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of six years of relevant experience in the field of ICT, specifically in the installation, maintenance, and administration of advanced office computer hardware, software, and networking equipment. Candidates must have at least one year of experience managing a Microsoft Windows server-based LAN that supports 50 or more users. Experience with UNIX/Linux server operating systems is considered an asset, as well as familiarity with current Microsoft Office products and Windows client operating systems. The ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues is crucial for success in this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in local languages. Additional Notes: The position is a full-time contracted role with a monthly remuneration of 1,246.67 Euro, subject to social security deductions. Social benefits include participation in the OSCE group medical insurance scheme and the OSCE Provident Fund. The appointment is typically made at step 1 of the OSCE salary scale, with the possibility of a higher step based on specific conditions.
