Job Overview: In this role, the America en el Centro Coordinator will be responsible for leading the America en el Centro initiative, which aims to promote sustainable development and resilience in Central America, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. The coordinator will work closely with the Country Department Central America, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and the Dominican Republic (CID) to manage strategic, programmatic, and operational relationships with multiple countries. The position requires strong program management skills and a deep understanding of the region, as well as experience in advancing a multi-stakeholder and multi-sector agenda for sustainable and inclusive development. The coordinator will independently handle the implementation of the initiative, ensuring alignment with the IDB Group’s Institutional Strategy and other regional initiatives, while also promoting knowledge sharing and capacity building within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The America en el Centro Coordinator will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including advising the Vice-Presidency of Countries and CID Manager on national and regional dialogues, expanding resource mobilization efforts, and developing operational strategies related to the initiative's three pillars: Productivity and Economic Integration, Climate Adaptation and Resilience, and Development of Youth. The coordinator will ensure strong integration of transversal issues and knowledge dissemination, represent CID in external initiatives, and increase the number of operations aligned with the program's priorities. Additionally, the coordinator will develop a comprehensive roadmap for the initiative's implementation, oversee monitoring of impact indicators, lead evaluations, and contribute to the training and development of junior staff.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree in Public Policy, Economics, Law, or a related field relevant to sustainable and inclusive development. A minimum of 10 years of validated experience in advancing sustainable development in the region is required. Additional experience in conducting strategic-level dialogues, facilitating negotiations involving multiple countries, and understanding the socio-economic and environmental characteristics of the CID territories will be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate diplomatic skills and a collaborative spirit, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining focus on quality and results.
Educational Background: The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant field such as Public Policy, Economics, Law, or other social sciences or humanities disciplines that pertain to sustainable and inclusive development. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of the region and effectively contributing to the IDB Group's mission.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of validated experience related to sustainable and inclusive development, particularly in the context of Central America, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. Experience in strategic-level technical dialogues, multi-lateral development banks, and connecting strategic discussions with operational realities is highly desirable. The candidate should also have a proven track record of facilitating impactful collaborations among diverse stakeholders.
Languages: Proficiency in both English and Spanish, spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French and Portuguese is considered a plus, as it may enhance communication and collaboration with a broader range of stakeholders in the region.
Additional Notes: The position offers an international staff contract for an initial duration of 36 months, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.
