Job Overview:
The Ethics Officer position is situated within the Ethics and Internal Justice Services Vice Presidency (EIJ VPU) of the World Bank Group. This newly created Vice Presidency is focused on fostering a values-based workplace culture and ensuring adherence to the organization's ethical standards. The Ethics Officer will serve as a trusted advisor in the regional country offices, specifically in Latin America and the Caribbean, delivering ethics training, responding to inquiries, and managing case intake. The role requires a commitment to maintaining confidentiality while providing high-quality work and may involve up to 40% travel to regional offices. The selected candidate will be expected to engage with various stakeholders, promote ethics awareness, and support the administration of the Declaration of Interests Programs, thereby playing a crucial role in the organization's ethical framework.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Ethics Officer will be responsible for a range of duties under the supervision of the ATV Manager and guidance from Senior Counsel. Key responsibilities include assessing and analyzing business conduct issues, providing advice on relevant policies and staff rules, and serving as a resource for Country Management Units and staff facing ethical dilemmas. The officer will conduct proactive outreach and ethics training, collaborate with colleagues across EIJ units, and support the administration of the Declaration of Interests Programs. Additionally, the officer will research and draft policy changes related to ethics, maintain consultation records, and assist in identifying ethical trends and patterns. The role also involves developing and implementing outreach strategies in alignment with priority areas identified by EIJ leadership.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in law, ethics, or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in an international or multicultural organization. Experience in ethics, compliance, personal conflicts of interest, and ethics training is highly desirable. Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, are essential, as is the ability to analyze and provide guidance on conflicts of interest. A proven track record in delivering ethics-related content and a commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion are also required. Candidates should demonstrate high integrity, discretion, and sound judgment when dealing with sensitive issues.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or equivalent in law, ethics, or a relevant field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of ethics and compliance within an international organization.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with 8 years preferred. Candidates should have experience in ethics, compliance, personal conflicts of interest, and related fields, ideally within an international or multicultural context. This experience is vital for effectively navigating the ethical challenges faced by the organization.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written English and Spanish is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and training delivery within the diverse cultural context of the World Bank Group.
