Job Overview:
The Business Development Manager (BDM) plays a pivotal role in leading the Business Development Unit, which encompasses Resource Mobilization, Grants Management, Donor Compliance management, and Institutional Partnerships on Programme Funding. The BDM is responsible for acting as the primary interface between Plan International and its donors and key stakeholders, promoting and enhancing the organization's resource mobilization efforts and visibility. This position requires a proactive approach to assessing and mapping the donor landscape, identifying and exploring funding opportunities that align with the priorities of Plan International Liberia. The BDM will lead the development of a Concept Note Bank and coordinate the production of high-quality and successful grant proposals in collaboration with program technical colleagues, finance, administration teams, and field staff. Additionally, the BDM will support the implementation of grants and work closely with donor contract compliance staff to ensure accountability for the resources managed by Plan International. The role also involves ensuring effective tracking of the utilization of resources for the benefit of targeted beneficiaries and delivering timely, quality financial and narrative grant reports to donors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the Business Development Unit, ensuring effective resource mobilization and grant management.
  • Act as the primary liaison with donors and key stakeholders to enhance Plan International's visibility and resource mobilization efforts.
  • Proactively assess and map the donor landscape to identify and explore funding opportunities in line with organizational priorities.
  • Develop and maintain a Concept Note Bank to streamline proposal development processes.
  • Coordinate with program technical colleagues and other teams to produce high-quality grant proposals.
  • Support the implementation of grants and ensure compliance with donor contracts and reporting requirements.
  • Track the utilization of Plan International's resources to ensure they are used effectively for the benefit of targeted beneficiaries.
  • Prepare and submit timely financial and narrative reports to donors, ensuring accuracy and compliance with donor expectations.
  • Foster collaboration and accountability within the organization and with external partners. 1
  • Stay informed about trends in resource mobilization and grant management to enhance the effectiveness of the Business Development Unit.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Business Development Manager position should possess a strong background in resource mobilization, grant acquisition, and partnership building. They should have proven experience in identifying funding opportunities and leading teams to develop successful proposals. Strong leadership, negotiation, and communication skills are essential for fostering collaboration and accountability. The candidate should also demonstrate a commitment to advancing children's rights and gender equality, with a focus on making a lasting impact through sustainable development and humanitarian initiatives. Additionally, the candidate should be results-driven and possess the ability to align donor priorities with organizational goals.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a relevant degree in international development, business administration, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred, as it demonstrates a higher level of expertise and understanding of the complexities involved in resource mobilization and grant management. Continuous professional development in areas related to fundraising, donor engagement, and compliance is also advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires significant experience in resource mobilization and grant management, ideally with a minimum of 5 years in a similar role within the non-profit or humanitarian sector. Experience in managing donor relationships and leading successful proposal development processes is crucial. Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in the development sector, particularly in relation to children's rights and gender equality, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all CVs and cover letters must be submitted in English. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the regions where Plan International operates would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders and donors.

This position is a full-time role with a fixed-term contract of 2 years, reporting directly to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director.
