Job Overview:
The Curriculum Development Officer / Deputy Team Leader (National) is a pivotal role within the Senior Secondary Education Improvement Project, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This position is integral to the successful implementation of curriculum reform in the Solomon Islands, particularly for senior secondary education (Years 10-12). The officer will work closely with the international Team Leader and the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) to ensure effective coordination and alignment of the national curriculum with contemporary priorities such as climate resilience, gender equality, and inclusive education. The role involves drafting and contextualizing curriculum frameworks, syllabi, and teaching and learning materials (TLMs), as well as facilitating workshops and stakeholder consultations. The Deputy Team Leader will also focus on capacity development and mentorship, ensuring that local staff are empowered and that the reforms are sustainable in the long term.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of the Curriculum Development Officer / Deputy Team Leader include supporting the Team Leader in coordinating Workstream 4 activities, leading the development and review of curriculum packages, ensuring alignment with national education standards, supervising local curriculum development team members, coordinating with schools and education stakeholders for curriculum piloting, overseeing the development of teachers’ guidelines, monitoring implementation progress and quality, providing technical support to curriculum writers and reviewers, conducting training workshops for teachers and curriculum officers, developing training materials and resources, mentoring local curriculum development staff, supporting knowledge transfer initiatives, liaising with MEHRD officials, coordinating with other workstream teams, engaging with school leaders and teachers, facilitating community consultations on curriculum matters, preparing regular progress reports, documenting curriculum development processes, and contributing to project monitoring and evaluation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of experience in curriculum development or educational leadership roles within the Solomon Islands is required. Applicants should demonstrate experience in developing and implementing educational programs that are contextually relevant to the Solomon Islands. A strong knowledge of the Solomon Islands education system and curriculum frameworks is essential, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proven leadership and team management capabilities are also necessary, as well as experience in capacity building and professional development.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, or a closely related field. This advanced degree is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to the curriculum development process and educational reform efforts in the Solomon Islands.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 10 years in curriculum development or educational leadership roles. This experience should be within the context of the Solomon Islands, demonstrating a deep understanding of the local education system and the challenges it faces.
