Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer in this position will provide technical support for activities related to data and business intelligence. The role involves maintaining and evolving scalable data repositories to ensure seamless data flow and integrity. The volunteer will develop and execute complex SQL queries to extract actionable insights and identify opportunities for enhancing system interoperability. Additionally, the volunteer will apply statistical techniques to uncover trends in complex datasets, design ETL processes using Azure Data Factory, and generate dynamic BI reports using Power BI. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to prioritize information needs and deliver tailored solutions, as well as training end-users on BI tools to foster a culture of data literacy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design and Optimize Data Infrastructure: Maintain and evolve scalable data repositories to ensure seamless data flow and integrity. Develop and execute complex SQL queries to extract actionable insights and enhance system interoperability.
  • Advanced Analytics & Strategic Insights: Apply statistical techniques to uncover trends and correlations in datasets, translating findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Business Intelligence & Innovation: Generate dynamic BI reports using Power BI to visualize key metrics and support data-driven decision-making. Execute AI/ML initiatives to modernize data workflows and improve predictive analytics.
  • Collaborative Problem-Solving: Partner with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot data discrepancies and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Process Excellence & Documentation: Streamline data governance by implementing robust databases and automated validation protocols. Document technical workflows and user guides for transparency and knowledge-sharing.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify systemic inefficiencies and lead process innovation projects to enhance data quality and stakeholder collaboration.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools such as Power BI, and experience with ETL processes. Familiarity with Azure Data Factory and statistical analysis techniques is essential. The ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment and communicate effectively with diverse teams is also required. Candidates should demonstrate adaptability, creativity, and a commitment to accountability and professionalism in their work.

Educational Background:
A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in data analytics or business intelligence are preferred but not mandatory.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related field. Experience working with large datasets and familiarity with cloud-based data solutions, particularly Azure, is highly desirable. Previous experience in a volunteer or non-profit organization is a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the UN's work, is considered an asset but not required.

This is a remote/home-based assignment. UN Volunteers are expected to comply with local laws regarding taxation, licenses, and work permits.
