Job Overview:
The position of Analyst within the Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) at the World Bank involves a critical role in enhancing the effectiveness of the World Bank Group's development initiatives through rigorous evaluation practices. The IEG is tasked with assessing the relevance, efficacy, and efficiency of the World Bank's operational policies and programs, ensuring they align with the strategic priorities of the institution and meet the developmental needs of its member countries. The Analyst will engage in various analytical tasks, including data extraction, cleaning, exploratory and statistical analysis, and qualitative data analysis. The role also emphasizes collaboration with the IEG Methods Advisory Function team, focusing on advanced data science techniques such as text mining, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and machine learning. The Analyst will contribute to the design and implementation of evaluations, develop conceptual frameworks, and assist in hypothesis testing, thereby playing a vital part in the World Bank's mission to improve development outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Analyst will undertake a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: extracting and cleaning operational and corporate data from various World Bank and IFC internal systems; designing analytical protocols and developing codebooks for portfolio identification and analysis; conducting qualitative coding of narrative data; creating visualizations to present statistical findings; and collaborating with the IEG Methods Advisory Function team on data science applications. The Analyst will also prepare and present data visualizations and dashboards, draft reports and communication materials, and respond to data requests from other teams. Additionally, the role involves orienting new team members and contributing to knowledge-sharing activities within the Data Science & Statistics Community.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess proficiency in programming languages such as Python, with a solid understanding of relevant libraries and experience with APIs. Basic knowledge of SQL is required, while familiarity with R or Stata is advantageous. Expertise in data visualization tools like Tableau and PowerBI is essential, along with a strong command of Excel. Candidates should also have knowledge of advanced statistical and econometric modeling techniques and experience in research analysis within the human development sectors. Desirable qualifications include experience with World Bank operations data, knowledge of additional programming languages such as JavaScript and C/C++, and familiarity with causal inference techniques and development evaluation concepts.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in social sciences with a quantitative focus, such as economics, sociology, political science, or public policy, is required. A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field like statistics, mathematics, or engineering is considered a plus.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of work experience in international development operations, research, evaluation, data management, or data analysis. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to conduct rigorous evaluations and analyses relevant to the World Bank's mission.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages such as Spanish and French is preferred, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the World Bank's global initiatives.
