Job Overview:
The Associate Communications Officer position at UNHCR Peru is designed for a creative and motivated individual who will lead and coordinate communication efforts. The role involves developing and implementing communication strategies that align with UNHCR's global communications objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in journalism and communications, particularly at the international level, and will be responsible for crafting narratives that resonate with diverse audiences. This position requires a deep understanding of the dynamics of forced displacement and the ability to generate empathy and mobilize action through effective storytelling and media engagement. The Associate Communications Officer will work closely with various stakeholders, including media, government agencies, and NGOs, to enhance UNHCR's visibility and impact in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Communications Officer include supporting the implementation of communication strategies for various countries and special projects, monitoring news trends to insert UNHCR's messaging into ongoing conversations, and forging strategic partnerships to promote UNHCR content. The officer will contribute to the development of authoritative content, such as press releases and flagship reports, and will be responsible for ensuring that communications projects meet set success indicators. Additional responsibilities include acting as a spokesperson for UNHCR, managing media relations, preparing communications budgets, and maintaining alignment with UNHCR's global branding. The officer will also engage with journalists and public audiences via social media and provide professional communications advice to senior staff.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least 3 years of proven experience leading a communications team, including developing communication strategies, and at least 1 year of professional experience in journalism and/or communications at the international level. Strong social media presence, experience with brand management, and familiarity with digital asset management systems are also essential. The candidate should have proven experience in stakeholder management, particularly with media, UN agencies, and donors, as well as experience designing communication campaigns related to social or humanitarian topics. Excellent communication skills in both English and Spanish are mandatory, and experience in an international NGO or UN agency is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
A university degree in Journalism, Communications, Film/Video, Public Information, or a related field is required. Candidates with advanced degrees (Master's or Doctorate) may have reduced experience requirements. Relevant certifications in communication or media are also beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with an undergraduate degree, or 2 years with a graduate degree, or 1 year with a doctorate. Candidates should have substantial experience in journalism and communications, particularly in international contexts, and should demonstrate a strong understanding of media relations and communication strategies.

Languages:
Proficiency in English and Spanish is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages is considered a plus, especially if they are relevant to the local context or UN working languages.
