Job Overview: The position of Local Climate Change Adaptation Expert is critical for the development and validation of key deliverables related to Chile's new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for climate action for the 2025-2030 cycle. The expert will be responsible for managing and executing project activities on the ground, closely liaising with the Government of Chile and other stakeholders. The role involves providing technical support for the development of adaptation goals and indicators, ensuring that the adaptation component of the NDC is comprehensive and aligned with national climate change laws and policies. The expert will work under the guidance of international experts and will be expected to deliver a series of reports and analyses that will inform the country's climate strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Local Climate Change Adaptation Expert will have a range of responsibilities, including:
Developing a comprehensive project workplan that incorporates inputs from the Ministry of Environment and considers ongoing activities in Chile.
Conducting a critical analysis of the objectives and measures of the twelve sectoral adaptation plans.
Proposing inter-sectoral adaptation goals and indicators for monitoring that address key areas such as water security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, food security, and resilient infrastructure.
Establishing adaptation targets and a monitoring and evaluation framework for these targets in line with the Long-Term Climate Strategy and the NDC 3.
Piloting the existing monitoring and evaluation system for sectoral adaptation plans.
Collaborating with the Climate Change Division of the Ministry of Environment to ensure alignment with national strategies and stakeholder engagement.
Preparing reports and documentation for dissemination and validation workshops, ensuring that all deliverables meet the required standards and timelines.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in social, economic, political, engineering, or environmental sciences, with postgraduate studies in climate change or environmental sciences. A minimum of five years of practical experience in climate change adaptation and related policies is required, with at least two years of experience at the national level. Relevant consulting experience, particularly in Chile, is highly desirable. The consultant should have a strong understanding of climate change laws and policies in Chile, as well as the ability to engage with public and private sector officials effectively. Analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines are essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as social, economic, political, engineering, or environmental sciences.
