Job Overview:
The internship is situated within the Campaigns and Country Operations Division of the Department of Global Communications, specifically in the Peace and Security Section. This section is dedicated to promoting the UN's work on critical peace and security issues, including conflict prevention, peacemaking, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, disarmament, and counter-terrorism. The intern will be involved in supporting various communications initiatives that focus on these themes, assisting in research, media outreach, and drafting communications products. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in a professional setting, allowing the intern to contribute to the UN's mission while gaining valuable skills and insights into international communications and public information strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected intern will be responsible for a range of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting communications initiatives related to peace and security, assisting with research and media outreach, drafting communications products such as press documents and website content, organizing communications workshops and training programs, coordinating logistics for meetings, and drafting notes from these meetings. The intern will work closely with staff members and other teams to ensure effective communication and outreach efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants should also possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, with additional knowledge of web and social media tools being advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in their final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided during the application process, and applicants are encouraged to highlight their academic achievements and relevant coursework in their applications.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or projects that align with the responsibilities of the internship. This could include coursework, volunteer work, or other internships that have provided exposure to communications, public information, or peace and security issues.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of five days a week (35 hours). Interns may work in person or remotely, depending on the needs of the Division and the availability of the candidate. Interns are responsible for their own costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses.
