Job Overview: The Programme Specialist position is situated within the Regional Office for West and Central Africa (ROSEN) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Dakar, Senegal. The primary objective of this role is to assist the Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Unit in operationalizing, implementing, and monitoring initiatives related to trafficking in persons and illicit smuggling of migrants. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Associate Programme Officer and the overall guidance of the Programme Coordinator. This position is integral to the PROMIS Project, which aims to strengthen the capacities of West African States to develop a human rights-based response to smuggling and to address human rights violations associated with irregular migration. The role involves a combination of administrative support, research, and direct engagement with various stakeholders to promote UNODC's mission in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The International UN Volunteer (Youth) will undertake a variety of tasks under the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator. Key responsibilities include promoting UNODC's work against trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, providing administrative and logistical support for technical assistance activities, and supporting research and analysis efforts. The volunteer will assist in drafting and preparing written documents such as funding proposals, speeches, and media releases, as well as contribute to the translation of relevant documents. Additionally, the role involves coordinating programme/project planning, monitoring project implementation, reviewing financial documents for compliance, and providing general office assistance. The volunteer will also support the implementation of missions and project activities throughout the region, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Programme Specialist position should possess a strong understanding of operations relevant to UNODC, including technical capabilities or knowledge that is transferable to UNODC procedures and rules.
